The event began on Friday, March 11th, continued with Bracket play on Sunday and concluded with Championship games on Sunday Afternoon. A total of 46 teams participated in the event. The 12U and 13U titles were won by Texas Summit and Team Griffin took home the 14U crown. In this article, we recap the action from Championship Sunday.
The emergence of Texas Summit – Texas Summit programs took home the 12U and 13U championships. The 12U team was led by Jaidyn Radway. The massive post helped TS survive a game JB White squad who was powered by David Lunn and his 30 points. In the 13U game, they defeated a flight team led by one of Saturday’s stars Eli Schwartzman. The 13U squad was able to win despite one of their best players David Coe being sidelined with an injury. In his absence, Antoine Almutter and Vincent Frye stepped up big helping the 13U team take home the title.
The depth of Team Griffin – Depending on when you watched them you probably would have a different opinion on who is the best player for TG. At times it was Kaidon Rayfield the 6’4 high flyer rebounded, protected the rim, and finished when he got out in transition. It might be Roman Miller. The smooth scorer looked like he was on cruise control en route to racking up double-figure scoring games. In the championship rounds, it was Cal Furnish who seemed to play better the tougher the competition. He knocked in daggers and threw teammates open for easy buckets.
JB White making a name – A year ago at this time the JB White program didn’t even exist. On Sunday both their 12U and 14U teams played for Championships. In addition to the aforementioned David Lunn, they had breakout performances from Cameron Dyer who scored 19 on opening night, and Latavious Morris who played with a wicked handle and confidence. In a short time, they have transformed themself into a potential middle school powerhouse.
Southern Assault 2025’s making moves – Currently we have SA ranked 21st in our 2025 Team rankings. Based on what I saw they could be significantly higher. Their only loss came in a hard-fought game against Team Griffin in the Semifinals. They were led by Kayden Edwards who was brilliant on both sides of the ball, and they received timely shooting from Hudson Greer and Garett Bosch.
Hit or Miss weekend for Cyfair – Depending on when you saw them Cyfair looked like one of the best teams in the event. They went 3-1 in their pool winning their games by an average of 23 points per game. However, they lost their game to eventual champion Team Griffin by 21 eliminating them from bracket play. Nasir Price was one of the top PGs at the event and Carter Nettleingham had several big games.
