With the high school basketball season in CA still temporarily on hold, various grassroots events and showcases have popped up to help fill the void. This weekend was the annual SoCal Clash hosted by Beach City Hoops. The game featured some of the top SoCal players from the Class of 2021 and 2022.

I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at some of the top standouts I saw.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="680223" first="Luke" last="Turner"] - Santa Margarita 2021

Turner is one of the top unsigned seniors in SoCal. He’s a very versatile forward who has really developed his ability to score off the dribble from the first time I saw him play about two years ago. He’s a knockdown shooter from three-point range and can shoot with defenders closing out on him. He moves very well without the ball and makes strong cuts to the rim. Good rebounder.

2. David Elliot - Birmingham 2021

Elliot is a LMU commit and a strong perimeter scorer. He’s got a real solid midrange game and he can can get to his spots on the court. He’s very comfortable with the ball in his hands. I’ve watched him play for a couple of years now and as a senior, this is the best he’s looked. His ability to make plays off the dribble and create shots is the best it’s ever been.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="748771" first="Gabriel" last="Quiette"] - Mater Dei 2022

What stood out the most to me about Quiette was his defense. He uses his length well to bother offensive players and he stays down on fakes. He’s got the tools to be an impact defender on the wing. Offensively, he’s got a little bit of an off the dribble game. He’s able to handle the ball in transition and he looks for the open player.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="748767" first="Isaac" last="Peralta"] - JSerra 2022

Peralta is a player I first saw back in 2019 and he’s come a long way in his development. He’s really come into his own as a point guard. He’s got all the tools to be the quarterback of a team’s offense. He can handle defensive pressure and he throws some smooth passes. He reads the defense well and makes the right pass. Impacts the game in a big way with his playmaking.
