The 2A Sectionals are underway and there were a lot of storylines from Saturday’s championship matchups. Let’s dive in and take a look at some of the top highlights from Saturday’s night of hoops.

[player_tooltip player_id="647199" first="Luke" last="Brown"] Goes for 50

Blackford came in as the clear favorite over Taylor, and the result of the game was never really in question as Blackford dominated 86-57. The real storyline in this one was the domination from Blackford senior, [player_tooltip player_id="647199" first="Luke" last="Brown"]. Brown hit the 50-point mark for the fifth time in his career. He now has 2,925 career points, and he will look to become just the fifth player in Indiana basketball history to reach the 3,000 point mark. Blackford wins back-to-back Sectional titles after nearly a 20-year drought from their last title in 1991. Blackford will take on Wapahani in the Regional on Saturday.

Triton Central Pulls off the Upset

Triton Central came into Sectional 44 with the fourth-best chance to win the title out of the five participating teams, but the Tigers showed everyone that analytics and numbers don’t mean anything. They came out on Friday and upset the hosts, Milan, and on Saturday, they took South Decatur down to the wire. Trailing by one on the final possession, Josh Kemper caught the in-bounds pass in the corner, took two dribbles into the paint, and hit a floater from 12 feet at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 66-65 upset victory. David Steele led the Tigers with 22 points, and Aiden Lindsay added 21. This was the Tigers first Sectional title in ten years, and they will take on Parke Heritage in the Regional on Saturday.

[player_tooltip player_id="783142" first="Colson" last="Montgomery"] Dominates for Southridge

The Southridge vs. South Spencer game in Sectional 48 was going to come down to if Montgomery could win the game for the Raiders, and he did just that. Montgomery scored 26 of the Raiders’ 30 points in the first half, and Southridge led 30-19 at the break. The Raiders would take this lead and never relinquish it as they would hold on to a 58-44 victory. [player_tooltip player_id="783142" first="Colson" last="Montgomery"] would finish with 38 points. He would average 28 per game in the Sectional tournament. Montgomery will look to continue his home success in the Regional as the Raiders will take on Paoli.
