Saturday’s Daily Dive: 2A Regional Recap

<p>The 2A Regionals have been completed, and there were a lot of storylines from Saturday’s semifinal and championship matchups. Let’s dive in and take a look at some of the top highlights from Saturday’s night of hoops. </p> <p><strong>Parke Heritage Pulls Off Upset</strong></p> <p>After cruising in the second half, Parke Heritage cruised in the second half of their opening game against Triton Central. This set up a big matchup with #2 Shenandoah. Parke Heritage had a 13 point lead in the third quarter, but Shenandoah was able to cut it to four with just under five minutes remaining. To this point, Parke Heritage’s leading scorer, [player_tooltip player_id="935724" first="Christian" last="Johnson"], had yet to score a point. However, in the final 5 and a half minutes of this game, Johnson scored 16 points to lead the Wolves to their first Regional title. Parke Heritage will take on Southridge in the Semi-State next Saturday.</p> <p><b>Fort Wayne Blackhawk Rolls to Semi-State</b></p> <p>Blackhawk Christian faced two tough opponents with Churubusco and Bowman Academy in their two games, but Blackhawk was able to put up two 68 point performances and come away with 13 and 16 point victories. [player_tooltip player_id="529561" first="Caleb" last="Furst"] was a big part of these two victories scoring 23 in the championship and topped 30 in their semifinal win over Churubusco. With the chaos that ensued in the Southern part of 2A, Blackhawk is now the extreme favorite to take home the state title, and they will have a tough game with Blackford in the Semi-State round.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="783142" first="Colson" last="Montgomery"] Dominates for Southridge</strong></p> <p>In game one of the Regional, Montgomery dominated with a 27 point, 10 rebound performance which included him scoring the first 19 points for the Raiders en route to an easy 43-35 victory over Paoli in which the Raiders had control of the game for most of the second half. In the second game, Southridge seemed to have firm control of the game, but everyone knew the Rebels weren’t out of it. However, a big run at the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth allowed the Raiders to stretch to a 17 point lead and eventually win by 13. Montgomery finished the second game with 30 points and 15 rebounds. Southridge will take on Parke Heritage in the Semi-State next Saturday.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Quick Hitters:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Shenandoah rolled over Covenant Christian by 30 points in a huge battle between two top three teams</li> <li>[player_tooltip player_id="1077014" first="Koron" last="Davis"] goes for 25, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to lead Bowman to a semifinal victory over Boone Grove</li> <li>Blackford survived a young Wapahani team thanks to 23 points from<strong> Landon Grimes</strong></li> <li>[player_tooltip player_id="647199" first="Luke" last="Brown"] scored 17 and 33 in the two Regional wins, so he sits 25 points away from 3,000 going into the Semi-State meeting with Fort Wayne Blackhawk</li> <li><strong>Austin Kramer</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="963912" first="Matthew" last="Williams"]</strong> score 20 in Southwestern’s narrow 1 point victory over Linton-Stockton</li> <li>[player_tooltip player_id="783147" first="Lincoln" last="Hale"] goes for 29 in the loss to make him 26th all-time in career scoring in the state of Indiana.</li> </ul>
