Winter Haven, Fla. — The final installment of our three-part feature recapping the sixth-grade division at Rumble Under The Palms concludes with a diverse group of performers from the Class of 2027. This collection of prospects from the Sunshine State certainly made a favorable impression with their play at the most recent Prep Hoops Next circuit event…
Thomayson Victor | Kissimmee, FL | Class of 2027
Victor popped onto my radar last autumn (Fall 2020) and his improvement, even within a few short months, was noticeable during Rumble Under The Palms. The 6-foot-3 post prospect has sprouted at least an inch and is quickly becoming more comfortable on the floor. He was involved on both sides of the court, providing an excellent defensive presence in the lane for the Florida Vipers (FL), while also showing enhanced production and confidence when the ball came his way at the other end. His club lost a trio of heart-breaking games by a combined total of nine points but Victor’s inclusion as an honorable mention All-Tournament selection is valid.
Anthony Walcott | Coral Springs, FL | Class of 2027
Walcott continues to stretch upward, as the wiry point-forward now checks in at 5-foot-10, and is showing no signs of slowing down. His impact on the court for E1T1 (FL) cannot be overstated, particularly at the Rumble Under The Palms, as Walcott stepped up in crucial situations for an undermanned backcourt throughout the weekend. Due to his blend of size and skill, the sixth-grade prospect is a very difficult match-up for opponents at this stage, and has legitimate triple-double potential each time he steps on the hardwood. The 2nd Team All-Tournament honoree is one of the more intriguing players I’ve watched in Florida’s Class of 2027 group.
Clarence Westbrook | Plantation, FL | Class of 2027
Another prospect with tremendous physical advantages compared to his Class of 2027 peers at the moment, Westbrook logged an impressive weekend at Rumble Under The Palms, playing a key role for the Miami Top Risers (FL) backcourt. The 5-foot-8 perimeter prospect is capable of filling either guard or forward positions at the sixth-grade level, and showed poise with the ball in his hands in the halfcourt, while also making sound decisions in transition. Westbrook was at his best in his team’s two closest games of the tournament which lends confidence to the thought that he will have an even greater impact on the action as he develops an alpha mentality.
Jeremy Willmore | Kissimmee, FL | Class of 2027
The Central Florida native exhibited several “big-game” qualities during the Rumble Under The Palms tournament that should serve him well moving forward. Suiting up with the Florida Vipers (FL), the fearless backcourt prospect brought a mature approach to the hardwood, and showed his toughness and competitive spirit throughout the weekend. As a player, Willmore is creative off the bounce, displayed vision and passing touch with the ball in his hands, and proved to be a crafty finisher in the lane. His continued physical development will be important but there’s no denying the talent of this 3rd Team All-Tournament selection.
Theodis Wilson | St. Petersburg, FL | Class of 2027
An honorable mention All-Tournament choice, Wilson was certainly the most underrated player for SPSA Runs (FL) during their march to the sixth-grade championship round at the Rumble Under The Palms tournament. The 5-foot-8 forward is an exceptional athlete, with a motor that doesn’t quit, and a no-nonsense mindset that allowed him to produce beyond typical positional boundaries. Wilson contributed for his club in nearly every statistical category, and while he wasn’t a dominant scorer, his impact in that category was also crucial as he was able to draw a number of decisive fouls against defenders when attacking the lane.
