The State Tournament opens up tonight! It’s time to see who is the best of the best and will end up reigning supreme as State Champs. Before the games get underway, I wanted to take give some attention to players who are playing at state that people need to keep their eye on! Let’s take a look at some of the names from the Idaho Falls Metro.

Gabe Hammons - G, Preston

Hammons is a solid combo-guard for Preston. On a squad that lost three crucial starters from a year ago. Hammons stepped up this year to be the guy. He averaged just over 16 points per game. He’s a lethal shot creator off-the-bounce. Watch for teams to potentially double him.

[player_tooltip player_id="969492" first="Bryler" last="Shurtliff"] - G, West Side

Shurtliff is one of the best scorers in the entire metro. He can pull-up from anywhere as soon as he walks into the gym with his unlimited range. He’s a sneaky-good facilitator as well with all the attention he draws from opposing defenses. Don’t worry he will get his as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="919703" first="James" last="Bodily"] - G, North Gem

Bodily is special for North Gem. He led the team in all five major categories: 21.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.1 blocks. The young man is an absolute star and he play both ends of the floor. He shot 43 percent from three too! If you’re looking for someone to watch that does it all, don’t look any further than Bodily.

[player_tooltip player_id="969481" first="Jordan" last="Lenz"] Jr. - G, North Fremont

Lenz is the engine of the top team from the Metro and potentially the best team in the state. He does it all averaging 20 points, 6 boards and 4 assists. He’s the go-to player down the stretch for the unbeaten North Fremont squad. If it’s close down the stretch of these games, watch for Lenz to be one who makes the play.

Isaac Davis - C, Hillcrest

Davis is a young phenom for Hillcrest in the interior. His length causes problems which led for him to average 10.4 points and 7.1 rebounds. The offense tries to go through him as much as possible with an inside-out philosophy. He may be a breakout performer.

Raleigh Shippen - F, Skyline

Shippen leads Skyline as a forward that plays up to the wing and occasionally to the four. His skillset allows him to guard multiple positions and he’s a creative scorer. He averaged 13.8 points and 5.1 rebounds for the Grizzlies. Shippen is a part of a squad that’s peaking at the right time, watch out!
