PH Next Circuit Midwest Preview: Chapman Basketball Academy 2027
MILWAUKEE, WISC– Last week, we got to catch up with CBA 2027 head coach Tony Resch about his Class of 2027 team the Chapman Basketball Academy is bringing to the Prep Hoops Next Circuit’s Midwest Region. See what Chapman Basketball Academy out of Milwaukee is all about!
A Big Basketball Background
Coach Resch started his basketball career at West Allis Hale and continued his college career at the NAIA level at Cardinal Strich University in Milwaukee. Since graduating and leaving the Wolves program, Resch has spent over 20 years on the coaching bench at the high school & grassroots levels across the Milwaukee area. He has been an assistant at Arrowhead, Cudahy, and most recently at Sussex Hamilton. He started his career on the grassroots level with Ray Allen Select, for who he coached for six years with the Class of 2021. That Ray Allen Select team won local & regional championships, and in Resch’s last season with RAS in 2018; his team was crowned as national champions in the 14U/8th Grade AAU Division I National Championship, which is Tony’s most memorable moment from coaching basketball with his son Tanner Resch on his team.
Getting Involved
Resch got his start in coaching grassroots basketball when his son Tanner Resch was coming through the ranks, which expanded his role to coaching at the grassroots level. “It allowed me to be around the game year-round,” Resch told Prep Hoops Next about his upbringing around the game of basketball to a year-round 12-month commitment. Watching his players such as Sussex Hamilton star & former Iowa and Drake guard Brady Ellingson motivated him to coach at the grassroots level.
The Founding of CBA
The Chapman Basketball Academy was founded by Joe Chapman, who was raised on Chicago’s southside & played high school basketball at Bloom Township, where he was a two-time all-state and a McDonald’s All-American Nominee. After his career at Bloom, he played on perhaps my favorite Marquette roster of all-time with players such as Dwayne Wade, Wesley Matthews, Travis Diener, Steve Novak, and others. Chapman played all four years at Marquette and then played basketball overseas for 11 seasons. In 2016, Chapman founded the Chapman Basketball Academy immediately after his playing career overseas, which he continues to lead today with not just training, but has formed camps, leagues, and club programs. The club programs offered both boy’s & girl’s teams throughout the Milwaukee area.
The Pillars of this 2027 CBA Team
Coach Resch stated how important it is to “take what the defense gives you.” Coach Resch knows there are many great grassroots basketball players out there, and if you can visualize what that defense is giving you, you can easily hit on their weaknesses.
The Key Starters
Coach Resch gave us a quick evaluation of his roster from the Class of 2027 and some of the skillsets from this group.
Zeak Jones | Milwaukee, WI | Guard | Class of 2027
Coach’s Take on Zeak:
Zeak is a bigger guard on our roster that is extremely tough. Jones also is a longer guard that has good versatility in his game.
Trey Resch | Sussex, WI | Guard | Class of 2027
Coach’s Take on Trey:
Trey is a quick guard who can score in multiple ways, either going to the bucket or setting up his outside shot. Trey is the son of 2027 head coach Tony Resch.
Mike Rogers | West Bend, WI | Small Forward | Class of 2027
Coach’s Take on Mike:
Mike is a lights-out shooter on our roster. Mike does a really nice job of stretching the floor defensively, making him one of our biggest assets on that end of the basketball court.
The Ones Under the Radar
Tref Rodemaker | Sussex, WI | Center | Class of 2027
Coach’s Take on Tref:
Tref is one of our only true bigs on the roster. Tref will need some development but has a good set up in the paint with his shot.
Mace Miskel | Whitefish Bay, WI | Guard | Class of 2027
Coach’s Take on Mace:
Mace is a small yet scrappy guard for our 2027 team. He is a fearless player that is under the radar.
National Travel
The Chapman Basketball Academy plans on playing a national schedule with the Prep Hoops Next circuit this season that will take them as far as Irving, Texas this spring & into the summer!
Why They Joined the PH Next Circuit
“We wanted to play the best of the best teams, which is what this circuit offers,” Coach Resch said about the Prep Hoops Next Circuit. On a joking note, he said, “we were getting tired of playing the same teams from all over Milwaukee!”
Welcome to the Prep Hoops Next Circuit, Chapman Basketball Academy 2027; we look forward to seeing you in the gym this spring and summer!
