On Saturday March 20th I attended the 6A Chip of Mountain Pointe Pride vs Sunnyslope Vikings at Mesquite HS in Gilbert/AZ.

Here were some of the varsity standouts of the game:

Sunnyslope 63 Mountain Pointe 62 (unofficial stats)

Sunnyslope

[player_tooltip player_id="827007" first="Oakland" last="Fort"] Sunnyslope (19 pts 9 rebs 2 ast 3 stls)

-One of the top guards in the AIA all season long backed it up in biggest game of the season. He showed off his skill with four from mid and three 3’s with range. He skies as high or higher then anyone in state for rebounds and is tough on the ball defensively. His best play may have been a full out sprint from end to end and then finished off a layup high above the crowd impressively. He sometimes looks like his playing on the fast forward button, as he covers so much ground quickly.

[player_tooltip player_id="703820" first="Grady" last="Lewis"] Sunnyslope (8 pts 8 rebs 2 asts 2 blks)

-A sturdy framed power forward battled all game inside with big Z. Once he gains position, he has a potent right hand hook shot to utilize and uses his strength and power to rebound. He made some nice passes to teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="826998" first="Elijah" last="Saunders"] Sunnyslope (16 pts 6 rebs)

-A thick face-up forward plays the 3-4 for the Vikings. He is versatile to shoot it from mid-range and in plus post you up. He jumps high to rebound using his frame and length and will put back shots in traffic. His 3-ball didn’t fall on this night but is usually steady with the deep ball as he shot 33% from the 3, which is pretty good for a 6’8 forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="1155294" first="Mason" last="Taylor"] Sunnyslope (10 pts 2 rebs 1 ast)

-The 6th man of the team had a good game off the bench. He shoots it off the catch from the 3 and uses his thicker build to score through contact. He should slide into the starting lineup next season and have himself a breakout year.

[player_tooltip player_id="991885" first="Malcolm" last="Olexa"] Sunnyslope (7 pts 10 rebs 2 asts 1 stl)

-Take the stats away for the game, he is vital to the teams success of taking pressure off of Fort. He is tough and fearless and even though he didn’t make a lot of shots he competed on both ends of the court.

Mountain Pointe

[player_tooltip player_id="809687" first="Zereoue" last="Williams"] Mountain Pointe (5 pts 11 rebs 4 blks)

-The big man is one of the best interior defenders in the AIA. He has that strong football body and plus athleticism to rebound and block shots. Offensively he scores on put backs and paint scores. Big Z committed to Utah for football and we at PHA hope to see him on Saturdays one day, and who knows, maybe even on Sundays.

[player_tooltip player_id="703811" first="Jason" last="Kimbrough Jr"] Mountain Pointe (16 pts 4 rebs 3 asts 1 stl)

-A quick scoring lead guard made some big shots in the close loss. He uses his speed and tight handle to get into the lane and he loves using the floater. Which is one of his best moves he has in his game. He made a clutch 3 down the stretch and he is still tough on the ball defensively with quick hands and feet.

[player_tooltip player_id="814036" first="Roosevelt" last="Washington"] Mountain Pointe (16 ps 6 rebs 1 blk 5 stls)

-One of the best downhill athletic defenders in the AIA. He has good length and quick springs to rebound the ball and is very aggressive and quick to collect steals. He is best from elbow and in and tough to keep in front of. He has ball fakes and a nice floater and will bounce off of contact and score through it.

[player_tooltip player_id="814039" first="Mark" last="Brown Jr"] Mountain Pointe (14 pts 4 rebs 3 asts 0 to)

-Like Fort, he plays fast and he is controlled. He has super shifty handle and a powerful upper body. He has a tough pull-up from mid-range and can make the catch-3. He takes contact well with his build and gets into the lane with a nice first step and his speed.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138592" first="Aiden" last="Price"] Mountain Pointe (8 pts 2 rebs)

-A long lefty soph has become the surprise of the program. He makes 3’s off the catch amd uses his length and quickness to defend. I can see him becoming that 3 and D guard. He grew a few inches since last year and moves without the ball to score it and spots up ready to fire away.
