FEBA Blue at The Arizona Competition Classic

Last weekend March 22-21 the Arizona Competition Classic was held at Apollo High School in Scottsdale Arizona. Here’s a look at one the teams from NorCal who made the trip to the desert. FEBA Blue a team from the Folsom area in NorCal. [player_tooltip player_id="1111520" first="Jaylen" last="Wells"] 6’6 Wing, Folsom HS. Folsom, CA. 2021 Wells a Sonoma St. commit looks like he’s ready to lead this team going forward. Being the tallest player on his team, he’s going to spend some time working on his inside game with this team. That makes him an inside/out threat. He’s a well known knock down shooter from the NorCal area. He showed improved footwork, around the basket, along with his length and strength, he was very effective playing in the post area. Jacob Thoensen 6’4 Forward, Folsom HS. Folsom, CA. 2022 Thoensen was a solid performer at this event. The 6’4 forward works best in and around the post area. He made it a point to box out before heading to the boards for rebounds. He had good solid passes from the post area. He works the baseline pretty good, taking it strong from there off two feet, or hitting the short corner jumper. He’s a hard worker on the defensive end. Joaquin Battle 5’10 Point Guard, Folsom HS. Folsom, CA.2023 It was our first look at Battle, the point guard has a good floor game. He did a good job of running the teams offense at this event. Battle at times controlled the pace of the game. He’s a solid handler, with patience, and good passing skills feeding the post, and spotting shooters on the perimeter. He's going to surprise a few with his ability to knock down 3’s. Micah Johnston 5’10 Combo Guard, Folsom HS. Folsom, CA. 2023 Johnston is an active combo guard who transitions well into either guard spot. He’s a fast player who fills the lane in transition and can get into the paint with his decent handles. He has good body control using floaters, and going up strong through contact for points in the paint. He gets the ball up the court with fast dribbles or long passes ahead. Good energy on the court Tariq Ali 6’3 Guard/Wing, Folsom HS. Folsom, CA. 2022 Ali is a long armed slender prospect with some athleticism. He stays wide in transition, and most effective in space. He has decent handles to put enough pressure on a defender in the open court. He has several ways to get his shot off when he gets into the paint, floaters, and jump hooks included. He made a couple of 3’s throughout this event. Ali has long arms, footspeed, and lateral movement to be a good defender. David Young 6’3 Guard/Forward, Folsom HS. Folsom, CA. 2023 It was our first time seeing Young. He’s a solid body prospect in the 2023 class with a good upside going forward. He has a decent mid-range jump shot, and will shoot from three. He found some success taking it to the basket strong from the baseline, he handled the contact. He’ll get up, and down the court filling the lanes in transition. He has a solid body, and will rebound. He's on the Wright's Watch list
