The District brackets have been released. There are some really good matchups and potential matchups that lie ahead. We will look at District 28, which is one that stood out to me.

OVERVIEW

This District has high quality players and some very interesting matchups. Grosse Pointe South has some elite young talent and athleticism. Detroit King and Hamtramck are 2 of the top 10-15 Division 1 teams in the state. Cass Tech has had a terrific season and has the talent needed to contend for a District championship. Grosse Pointe North has the array of players needed to make a run.

PREDICTIONS

QUARTERFINALS

Grosse Pointe North vs. Detroit Cass Tech

Prediction: Detroit Cass Tech

SEMIFINALS

Grosse Pointe South vs. Detroit King

Prediction: Detroit King

Hamtramck vs. Detroit Cass Tech

Prediction: Hamtramck

CHAMPIONSHIP

This is a tough pick. It features 2 of the top backcourts in the state squaring off. A better collection of perimeter defenders may not take the court together for the rest of the season. Either of these teams could make a VERY deep playoff run.

Detroit King vs. Hamtramck

Prediction: Hamtramck

PLAYERS TO WATCH

[player_tooltip player_id="986247" first="Amari" last="Allen"] (2023, PG, Hamtramck)

Allen has clearly sent a message this season. He can drop a triple-double at a moments notice.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076027" first="Adam" last="Ayrault"] (2023, SG, Grosse Pointe North)

Ayrault is a young talent to watch out for. I like his overall upside.

[player_tooltip player_id="985664" first="Anthony" last="Benard"] (2023, CG, Grosse Pointe South)

Benard is an elite player and in the class of 2023. He’s an explosive athlete that is capable of leading his team on a run in Districts.

[player_tooltip player_id="863926" first="Rylan" last="Bowens"] (2022, PF, Detroit Cass Tech)

Bowens probably deserves more recognition. He’s one of the top power forwards in the junior class.

[player_tooltip player_id="863930" first="Will" last="Johnson"] (2022, SG, Grosse Pointe South)

The Michigan football commit is one of the top pure athletes in the midwest, and probably beyond that. If he gets going in the District tournament......Watch out.

[player_tooltip player_id="1087608" first="Javier" last="Whitaker"] (2021, PG, Hamtramck)

Whitaker is a grinder that has helped create an identity for himself and his Hamtramck team. He’s a tough defender and a consistent scorer.

[player_tooltip player_id="863923" first="Chansey" last="Willis"] (2022, PG, Detroit King)

Willis, by the time it’s all said and done, will be considered one of the top perimeter defenders in Michigan. He leads with his hustle and energy.

[player_tooltip player_id="983498" first="Duane" last="Wright"] (2022, PG, Detroit Cass Tech)

Wright has really established himself as a guard to know in the junior class. Wright could really make some noise in Districts.

Omar Zeigler (2021, CG, Detroit King)

Zeigler is one of the top talents in the state. So much so, that if he led Detroit King to a state final appearance, I wouldn’t be shocked.
