A few weeks earlier, Gamepoint Basketball hosted the College Basketball Showcase. Held at an undisclosed location, the event featured a number of the top prospects from San Diego County, as well as a few from neighboring cities in games that were live-streamed and held without fans.

In the first of several reports, we look at the shooters who stood out among the group of 40 or so prospects.

TOP SHOOTERS

[player_tooltip player_id="954257" first="Damian" last="Ruiz"], 6-3 2022 SG, Murrieta Valley

Ruiz had the hot hand all showcase, knocking down 15 shots from deep. He has effortless mechanics and doesn’t need a ton of space to get his shot off. What’s intriguing about him is his improved ball skills when attacking close outs. The improvement has helped him become a more complete playmaker.

Henry Hartwell, 6-5 2021 SG, El Camino

Hartwell is rounding into one of the top shooters in San Diego, and can do it from deep and with the midrange pullup. He has an ideal basketball frame and gets nice elevation on his pull-up jumper, and his mechanics are picturesque.

[player_tooltip player_id="748736" first="Robert" last="Aguirre"], 6-1 2022 SG, Marina

Aguirre is a big-time spot-up shooting threat. He has a feathery release and his shots rarely hit the rim when his feet are set. He’s made serious strides improving his body over the past year, tightening his handle in the process. He’s moving more towards "lead guard" than spot-up shooter, which should boost his recruitment.

Aidan Collins, 6-0 2022 G, Santa Fe Christian

Collins was easily one of the most efficient scorers on hand during the latter part of the showcase. He knocks down shots from all three levels, and his stocky build allows him to absorb contact and finish around the basket consistently.

[player_tooltip player_id="951243" first="Keaton" last="Webb"], 6-5 2021 W, Santa Fe Christian

Webb is working his way back after an injury kept him sidelined through the fall, but one thing he hasn’t lost is his deep-range shooting ability. There aren’t many more accurate shooters when their feet are set than Webb, who also has the size to overpower smaller guards in the paint.

Ty Cox, 6-4 2021 W, Mission Vista

Cox had one of the fastest catch-and-shoot releases in the gym, able to quickly set his feet and evade closeouts by getting his shot off over the contest. He is also an improved threat to attack the close out and finish off the dribble.

Eddie Powell, 6-2 2022 SG, Scripps Ranch

One of the surprises of the event, Powell rattled off three straight threes to open up his first game. While his game off the dribble is a work in progress, he has value as a floor spacer.
