With there not being a lot of travel ball last year because of COVID-19, it was great seeing the players and team come out with positive energy all throughout the weekend. With a primary focus on the 6th grade division, I take a look at five of the top energy guys below.
Drew Cripps | Team BNU | [Class of 2027
Lightning quick speed is the name of the game for Cripps. Cripps was one of the smaller prospects in the 12U division at Blue Chip City Mayhem but that almost went un-noticed with his ability to accelerate past defenders because of his speed and quickness. Cripps was constantly moving on and off the ball for Team BNU and was crucial for them leading them to a 4-1 record at Blue Chip City Mayhem.
Devin Cleveland | Chicago Demons | Class of 2027
Energy is something you don’t have to worry about when Cleveland is on the court. The 5’4 Chicago native brings it each possession for the Demons and is someone the coaching staff can count on to leave it all out on the floor. Cleveland had a productive weekend at Blue Chip City Mayhem and is a prospect to monitor in the state of Illinois as he gets older.
Austin Slone | Team BNU | Class of 2027
Slone found himself on the All-Tournament First Team and it would not be appropriate if we left him off the “Top Energy Guys” list. Team BNU will go as far as Slone will take them. Slone was one of the hardest-working players I saw at Blue Chip City Mayhem regardless of age group as he has productivity written all over him. Slone plays beyond his years and has a bright future ahead of him.
Andre Wells | Team Teague Johnson | Class of 2027
Wells was the most vocal 6th grader I saw at Blue Chip City Mayhem. He was not the most dominating player on the offensive side of the ball for his Team Teague Johnson bunch but he made himself known on the defensive side. He was constantly calling out screens, matchups and who he has on defense which showed how important he knows defense is. Once Wells develops more of an offensive game, he has the chance to be a versatile two-way player.
Demari Wills | Team Teague Evans | Class of 2027
Wills did not have the best stats for Team Teague Evans during their championship run but is an important glue guy that helped in the teams success at blue Chip City Mayhem. He has a consistent jump shot and looks to get his shot off whenever he can. If this Teague group stays together, Wills will be an important factor for them down the road.
