Awards Time: Top Small Ballers

Dynamite comes in small packages. Sports in Kansas publication recently released its all-state team. Several small guys made the top three teams of the best players across the state. Here is a look at the players 6-foot or smaller from the Sports in Kansas all-state teams: [player_tooltip player_id="889458" first="Javon" last="Grant"], 5-foot-11 senior Pittsburg (pictured): The only guy under 6-foot on the Sports in Kansas 1st team, Grant was amazing this season. His speed, quickness and shiftiness with the ball make him so tough to stop. He averaged 31.5 points his senior year. His lack of height doesn’t keep him from getting in the lane for runners. His ball handling allows him to slice and dart through traffic to create havoc in the open court. [player_tooltip player_id="824114" first="Stevie" last="Strong Jr"]., 6-foot, senior, Campus: A member of the 2nd team, Strong came across the border for his senior year after starring on the Missouri side of Kansas City. He helped Campus to the doorstep of a state title this year. He has quickness, physicality, and great explosiveness. He was a huge addition for an already loaded Campus team with 17.5 points and 4.4 assists this year. [player_tooltip player_id="889463" first="Max" last="Alexander"], 6-foot senior, Buhler: Also on the 2nd team was Alexander, a point guard who can create his own shot and is instant offense because of his quick pull up and ability to find gaps in the lane. Alexander is a gritty competitor who makes a lot of physical plays and is on top of every 50/50 ball. [player_tooltip player_id="1076403" first="Brett" last="Sarwinski"], 5-foot-11 junior, Galena: Sarwinski joins Grant as one of two sub-6-footers to get all-class honors. A member of the 2nd team, Sarwinski was huge in the playoffs, helping Galena reach the 3A finals. He averaged 17.8 points last year. Lucas Hammeke, 6-foot senior, Hutchinson Trinity: Hammeke can really do a lot of things with the ball, and for that reason, he was the only guy 6-foot or smaller on the 3rd team. He gets after it on the defensive end, recording 3.3 steals. And he dishes for 4.0 assists while also filling it up with 21.2 points per game.
