Tickets punched.

Programs have an RSPV to Lakeland after Friday night’s regional finals. The dream of a state title is down to four for these schools in each class.

Let’s quickly rundown the scores...

5A: Pembroke Pines Charter 79, Miami Norland 53

3A: Calvary Christian Academy 75, Sante Fe Catholic 53

3A: Miami Country Day 62, Archbishop Carroll 56

2A: Grandview Prep 50, Brito 47

7A: Dwyer 70, Coral Springs 54

6A: Mater Academy Charter 62, Martin County 60

4A: Pine Crest 69, North Miami Beach 37

Let’s look into the standouts of the night:

Ryan Sanchez - Mater Academy Charter

2021 Ryan Sanchez way key in the Lions seeding upset over Martin County. The 5-foot-10 point guard scored 11 of his game-high 24 points (26 on MaxPreps) in the fourth quarter to derail the Tigers run at a state title. Sanchez used his speed and finishing ability to halt Martin County’s undefeated season. He also tied his season-high with five offensive rebounds. It was the 5th time in the last six games that Sanchez has scored 20 or more points. The senior is playing well at the right time for the Lions.

Pedro Brown - Grandview Prep

2021 Pedro Brown has played well thus far in the 2A state tournament. The 6-foot-8 forward has combined for 43 points through three games. Moreover, Brown had grabbed 24 rebounds heading into the final against Brito. His mix of length and athleticism has contributed to a streak of four straight double-doubles as of Friday night. Brown is third in scoring (13.6) and leads Grandview Prep in rebounding (10.3) per game. 2021 Mayke Boles added 14 points and 2021 Gunner Walters finished with 13.

[player_tooltip player_id="829457" first="Xavier" last="Scott"] Jr. - Dwyer

The Panthers extended their lead after halftime behind 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829457" first="Xavier" last="Scott"] Jr. The 6-foot guard hit three 3-pointers as Dwyer outscored the Colts 21-6 in the third quarter to put the game on ice. Scott Jr. has made nine 3-pointers over his last five games. Moreover, he has reached double-figures in four of five after scoring ten points last night. This was a balanced scoring effort for the Panthers as four players reached double-figures. Dwyer will be a dangerous team in the 7A final four.

[player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] - Calvary Christian

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] finished with a team-best 15 points in the Eagles’ victory over Sante Fe Catholic. The 6-foot-5 guard excels playing downhill and has a nice mid-range game. Cherenfant has length to play over positional guards and can find openings in the lane with his quickness. He holds offers from LSU and Western Kentucky. Calvary Christian had three other players reach double-figures in the win. 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="1068757" first="Dylan" last="Canoville"] finished with 12 points in the contest. The 6-foot-5 forward forward is a strong rebounder and plays physical around the cylinder.

[player_tooltip player_id="829396" first="Geoffrey" last="Sprouse"] - Pembroke Pines Charter

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829396" first="Geoffrey" last="Sprouse"] exploded for 23 points as the Jaguars defeated the Vikings in Miami Gardens. The 6-foot guard possesses a strong handle and finishing ability on his way to the rim. Sprouse is a strong two-way player that should give Pembroke Pines Charter an advantage heading into Lakeland. The Jaguars had three other players in double-figures. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1065434" first="Caelum" last="Ethridge"] finished with 17 points. He is a player to watch out for this summer. I think Ethridge is playing quality basketball and is physically stout at the guard position.
