The regular season is starting to wrap-up here in South Florida. The new month will bring district tournaments as we begin to shape the field for Lakeland. I would like to congratulate every team and parent for navigating what has been an unorthodox year.

Let’s take a look at some news and information that has come across my radar.

Jonathon Pierre - Hallandale

2021 Jonathon Pierre helped secure a huge win (60-57) over Pembroke Pines Charter in the BCAA Big 8 Basketball Tournament. The 6-foot-7 guard had 21 points, six assists and five rebounds on 7-of-13 from the field. Moreover, Pierre knocked down an impressive 5-of-8 from deep. 2021 guard David Valcourt added 20 points on 8-of-12 from the field. Both players are impressive scorers and fueled the Chargers to the 3-point victory. Pierre has length to be disruptive on both ends of the court. His ability to stretch out a defense to the 3-point line is a nice caveat to his game.

Juwan Dawes - Dwyer

2022 Juwan Dawes helped Dwyer to a big road victory over Wellington on Thursday. The 6-foot-4 wing scored nine points in a balanced scoring effort for the Panthers. Against 8-1 Forest Hill, Dawes scored 22 points on 10-of-14 from the field. He is shooting 53 percent from the field on the season and has position versatility. Give credit to 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829457" first="Xavier" last="Scott"] Jr. for hitting a big 3-pointer late to spur the upset. Those are the kind of shots you need to hit to defeat a team like the Wolverines. Dwyer finishes the regular season with an 8-2 overall record.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068736" first="Tristan" last="Gee"] - Trinity Christian Academy

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="1068736" first="Tristan" last="Gee"] earned an offer from Eastern Nazarene in Massachusetts yesterday. The 6-foot-5 forward recently scored his 1000th career point for the Warriors. Gee has averaged 23.7 points and 8.9 rebounds for Trinity Christian Academy this season. His frontline size makes him a likelihood to grab double-figure rebounds. Gee also shows good patience and blocks shots (2.4 Bpg) around the paint. He is a high IQ and powerful player for the Lake Worth club.

[player_tooltip player_id="953072" first="Matthew" last="Robinson"] - Western

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="953072" first="Matthew" last="Robinson"] is a player I really like for the Wildcats. The 6-foot-3 wing scored ten points and grabbed six rebounds in a win over Cardinal Gibbons in the Big 8 Tournament. Robinson can be a playmaker attacking the basket or finish around the rim. His length gives him an advantage to grab rebounds and play off smaller defenders.

[player_tooltip player_id="714859" first="Micah" last="Octave"]/[player_tooltip player_id="818863" first="Marc" last="Steig"] - Olympic Heights

2021’s [player_tooltip player_id="714859" first="Micah" last="Octave"] and [player_tooltip player_id="818863" first="Marc" last="Steig"] combined for 45 points in the Lions 79-70 victory over Royal Palm Beach. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829421" first="Caleb" last="Mackrey"] added 19 points for the undefeated (10-0) team out of Boca Raton. Mackrey is a 6-foot-3 kid that will attack the rim at will. Steig is a good passer with strong vision that dished out nine assists against Royal Palm Beach. He is a four-year kid that plays with good patience in the backcourt. Octave is a big guard that grabbed 12 rebounds against the Wildcats. He has been one of the best players in the county, averaging over 22 points per game on 52 percent shooting from the field. Moreover, Octave has scored 20 or more points in eight contests. His defensive work will either create turnovers or single shot opportunities thanks to his rebounding skills. Octave has grabbed ten or more rebounds in four games. Olympic Heights has a huge test when they face Forest Hill on Friday night.
