District Tourneys are about to wrap up and bids to the State Tournament are in sight. In the Idaho Falls Metro, free basketball was on display with games going to overtime. These two games display how evenly-matched these teams were.

Third-Time is the Charm for Snake River

The Eagles and Panthers played for the third time in three weeks. The teams are so evenly matched but this time Snake River was able to close out Marsh Valley. Which is why it took two overtimes before Snake River could pull out a 58-57 victory.

Snake River took an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter but the Eagles’ press forced some Panther turnovers. Within four minutes, Marsh Valley’s 11-0 run tied the game and caused the stalemate that eventually forced overtime.

Of course there wasn’t going to be a blowout between Snake River and Marsh Valley.

Marsh Valley actually had a chance to win the game in regulation and in overtime. In a tie game both times, the Eagles held the ball for more than a minute, trying to get the last shot.

Mitch Lindsay led the way with 22 points for Snake River scoring in a variety of ways getting to the rim and from the outside.

Bonneville ends Blackfoot Season

Blackfoot’s season ended with a 48-46 to Bonneville in the 4A District 6 Tournament.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id="969603" first="Carter" last="Layton"], who scored a team-high dozen points, hit a layup with six seconds to send the game into overtime. But there, Blackfoot just couldn’t score when it mattered.

Saturday was the final game for a big part of Blackfoot’s core including Layton, Jaxon Ball, Canyon Dahle, Jace Grimmett and Jaden Harris. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.

Despite those losses, the Broncos have impressive pieces already in their program, namely sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="970441" first="Ja’Vonte" last="King"] who was one of Blackfoot’s leading scorers this season. He will need to be the guy from now on.

Johnson led all scorers with 20. For Bonneville, there season stays alive.
