Gilbert’s Notebook: Week 2 Notes

<p>Let’s empty out the notebook for Week 2. We’ll label this a stock riser edition as all these players are making statements in this truncated season. </p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="864021" first="Quinn" last="Zickert"] 6-2 2022 Benzie Central </b>Stocky guard with the type of frame that can handle the five games in eight days gauntlet he has just gone through. Standout moment was the game winning basket against Glen Lake. Showed off improving athleticism against the Lakers big frontline. Followed up with 22 points in victory over a Buckley team that featured a few of his AAU teammates on Parallel 45 squad. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="1125792" first="Preston" last="Ball"] <b>5-11 2021 Elk Rapids </b>Early season statement game. Scored 25 points in the Elks decisive victory over Traverse City St Francis. Not surprised he stepped up to the moment. Four year starter who has been very active in AAU. This young man has played a LOT of big time basketball. Highly competitive player who began the week by beating a good Boyne City team that had beat them the previous week. </p> <p><b>[player_tooltip player_id="1125795" first="Kaiden" last="McGillis"] 6-3 2021 McBain </b>Bouncy athlete with an excellent frame. Appears to be nursing a hand injury of some sort so shooting statistics might be somewhat skewed. Defends really well and gets out transition quickly. Once there is able to finish above the rim with ease. Big time athlete playing on a deep squad. If coaches are willing to look beyond the box score they could get a steal. </p> <p><b>Connor Murphy 6-1 2021 McBain </b>As with most McBain teams the Ramblers strength lies in its big frontline. But don’t forget about the point guard. Has a excellent size for the position. Not a traditional distributor but plenty of athleticism. Should have a big late season matchup with Traverse City St Francis and 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="985667" first="Wyatt" last="Nausadis"] </p> <p><b>Oakley Barger 6-3 2022 Lake City </b>A somewhat unexpected bright spot for a squad who has gotten off to a rough start. Lanky and lean prospect who plays bigger than measurements. Scored 15 in a victory over Morley Stanwood and 16 in a loss against McBain’s large front line. </p>
