Granville Central powers to 2-0
The Rolesville Rams visited the Granville Central Panthers on Wednesday night in a nonconference matchup. The Rams jumped out to an early 9-2 lead led by Jayden Michael Jayden Michael 6'0" | CG Rolesville | 2022 State NC but the Panthers answered with a 20-5 run to close out the quarter. Michael finished with seven points and a number of assists despite the loss.
The first quarter was capped off by a 3-pointer from Terence Harcum Terence Harcum 6'1" | CG Granville Central | 2021 State NC Jr. to end the final quarter buzzer. Harcum paced the Panthers with 30 points and a number of assists and rebounds in a 50-37 victory. He showcased his ability to make plays for himself and others using his strong frame and high IQ. He’ll be one to track at the next level at Appalachian State.
Jamari Mann Jamari Mann 6'3" | CG Granville Central | 2021 State NC was another top performer for the Panthers. He put up 14 points and showed off his ability to defend, shoot the 3-ball and make plays on the fastbreak. Colleges in need of a sharpshooting guard and slasher that can defend with length, look no further.
KJ Green KJ Green 6'1" | CG Granville Central | 2023 State NC is a new sophomore name to track at Granville Central. He’s a 6-foot-1 guard that can defend, rebound and score the ball on all three levels. He’s an emerging guard that should be a solid third contributor this season for the Panthers.
Henderson Collegiate looks to repeat in 1A action
The Henderson Collegiate Pride got a 96-55 victory over Voyager Academy to kick off their 2020-21 season. Javonte Waverly Javonte Waverly 6'3" | CG Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC posted 26 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals while Omahj Evans Omahj Evans 6'1" | SF Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC contributed with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists and a block in a runaway victory for the Pride. Three other players finished scoring in double-figures for the Pride: Akhiris Holden Akhiris Holden 6'5" | SF Henderson Collegiate | 2021 State NC finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Newcomer Ellis Williams Ellis Williams 6'1" | SG Henderson Collegiate | 2023 State NC finished with 10 points and two assists. TJ Ragland TJ Ragland 6'2" | PG Henderson Collegiate | 2022 State NC finished with 12 points and five assists.
Junior big man Jarrod Small Jarrod Small 6'6" | PF Henderson Collegiate | 2022 State NC also had seven points and four rebounds. They’re a deep and talented group with room to grow as a unit with Waverly and Evans leading the way. They’ll be in action at home on Tuesday against East Wake Academy at 6:45.
Wayne Country Day squeezes by Greenfield School
Greenfield School got a game-high 33 points from junior forward Aaron Murphy Aaron Murphy 6'5" | SF Greenfield | 2022 State NC but it wasn’t enough in the end as Wayne Country Day pulled out a 81-79 victory on Friday night. A big third quarter burst from the Chargers put them in position to win it and after a wacky ending in the fourth, they sealed the victory.
They got 26 points, six assist, five rebounds from Mike Best Mike Best 6'0" | PG Word of God | 2022 State NC , who continues to excel at the lead guard spot. Jaden Cooper Jaden Cooper 6'3" | CG Wayne Country Day | 2021 State NC finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocks including a block at the end on Jordan Vick Jordan Vick 5'11" | PG Word of God | 2025 State NC (11 points) to close out the game. Carlos Raven Carlos Raven 5'11" | PG Wayne Country Day | 2021 State NC and Jordan Cooper Jordan Cooper 6'1" | CG Wayne Country Day | 2023 State NC also finished with 12 points apiece. Raven had eight assists and six rebounds. Cooper dished out two assists and snagged four rebounds.
Big man Vante Hutcherson Vante Hutcherson 6'8" | PF Wayne Country Day | 2021 State NC had his double-double streak snapped at 10 games but he still put up eight points and 11 rebounds, including a poster dunk at the end of regulation that sent his whole team into a frenzy that drew a technical foul.
Hampton Evans Hampton Evans 6'5" | PF Farmville Central | 2024 State NC also finished with 20 points for Greenfield School.
Greensboro Day School gets a key victory in NCISAA play
Look for the Greensboro Day School Bengals to move up in the upcoming NCISAA Power Rankings after a 48-45 victory over Charlotte Christian on Saturday afternoon. Jaydon Young Jaydon Young 6'4" | CG Greensboro Day | 2023 State #206 Nation NC put up 14 points and Tyler Lundblade Tyler Lundblade 6'5" | SG Greensboro Day | 2021 State NC put up 13 points to power Greensboro Day past Bryce Cash Bryce Cash 6'5" | CG Carmel Christian | 2023 State NC and his 20 points to score a solid victory against a 6-1 squad. The duo stepped up in the absence of Nikolas Graves Nikolas Graves 6'3" | PG Greensboro Day | 2022 State NC , C.J. Collins C.J. Collins 6'11" | C Greensboro Day | 2022 State NC and Michael Zanoni Michael Zanoni 6'5" | SG Greensboro Day | 2022 State NC . It was a defensive struggle throughout with GDS leading 23-19 at the half.
The Bengals used an 9-0 run sparked by a flurry of Jaydon Young Jaydon Young 6'4" | CG Greensboro Day | 2023 State #206 Nation NC and-1’s to push the score to 32-23 early in the third quarter. Soon after, Bryce Cash Bryce Cash 6'5" | CG Carmel Christian | 2023 State NC would score on a run of his own to bring the score to 32-27.
The teams would trade 3-pointers after that to end the fourth quarter with Greensboro Day holding a 35-30 lead. Free throws became the difference down the stretch as Lundblade made 7-of-8 free throws in the fourth to continue to stretch the lead for the Bengals.
David Lash David Lash 6'5" | PF Charlotte Christian | 2021 State NC also had seven points and five rebounds for Charlotte Christian.
