There was good representation from Northern California and it’s players looking to improve their chances of getting some much needed recognition by college coaches, and scouts at this event. There were five prospects listed at 6’8 or 6’9. I consider them post prospects. DII, DIII, NAIA, and Juco take a look.
Chico Lewis Chico Lewis 6'7" | PF Capital Christian | 2021 State CA-N 6’8 Power Forward, Capital Christian HS, Cap City Cougars.
Lewis is still absorbing the game, he’s a smart player who’s still developing his skill set. He has the height, with more bulk, and playing the game he’ll improve. He works hard to be productive, he actively goes for rebounds, he can defend the post, and change some shots with his long reach, he does a decent job of setting screens, and boxing out. He gets up and down the court pretty good. He’s not much of a scorer. Improved footwork, and a go to move would help. He’ll hit the offensive boards.
Malik Madison Malik Madison 6'8" | C Sacramento | 2021 State CA-N 6’9 Center, Sacramento HS, Ascending Life
Madison is raw! After seeing him at another event earlier this year he seems to have one thing that will make coaches look twice. His size and a body. It’s the overall challenge of teaching him how to play the game, and his position. He’s strong, and will get rebounds, he has a turnaround jumper on the baseline that he had some success with. He’ll run the court.
Jack Busenhart 6’8 Center, Santa Cruz HS Arsenal 17 Brown
Busenhart is a fundamentally sound prospect, who’s probably going to bulk up a bit more. He needs to speed things up a bit. His foot work is okay, he has a drop step, and a jump hook he uses in the paint. His scoring would increase if he became more aggressive in the paint. I’ve seen him put up 3’s in the corner, and at the top.
Jack Steinkamp 6’8 Center, Whitney HS. Rose City Ballers 17
Steinkamp another big body who’s not going to score a bunch of points. He will take up space, and give you what he’s got, with that being said, overtime he might be a contributor to a program that’s patient and will develop him and his body, it’s going to take some time. He’ll set good screens, pass to cutters, and shooters. He’ll set up on the blocks and use a drop step to get his shot off.
Fabian Reichardt 6’8 Power Forward, Cap City Cougars 17
The last time I saw Reichardt play was at a lower division school where he was averaging a double, double which didn’t present much of a challenge to him. He’s upgraded to a more competitive level. He gives good effort, but its more of a challenge for him now, plus he’s spending more time in the post area, that’s something he’s adjusting to. His reaction time is a little slow, but he’s fairly active, and has improved his effort to defend, and rebound when he’s on the court. He can score around the basket, he can make some shots outside of the post. He’s adjusting to his new surroundings. I’ll keep an eye on him.
