This was a Region 2 vs. Region 1 matchup. The Burros from Hillsboro/Central Valley came into this game with a record of 5-4. The Burros are coming off a 29-point win over Cavalier. The Jaguars from Northern Cass had a 6-5 record coming into this game. This past Friday Northern Cass lost by 2 points to a great Enderlin team.

Halftime Score – Hillsboro/Central Valley 21 Northern Cass 17

Final Score – Hillsboro/Central Valley 51 Northern Cass 40

Made 3-pointers – Hillsboro/Central Valley 5 Northern Cass 3

HCV led most of the game and seemed to be in control throughout. Northern Cass did make a run late to keep it interesting. However, HCV took care of the ball and hit free-throws to close out the game. The Burros are a much-improved team compared to the start of the season when I watched them last. Lookout Region 2! Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros will be a tough out, come tournament time.

Here are the top players from tonight’s game:

1. [player_tooltip player_id="1130542" first="Jackson" last="Anderson"] (2021) |6-3 G| Hillsboro/Central Valley – 18 points and 4-4 from the charity stripe. He is a physically strong guard. I like the zip he puts on his passes. Jackson has a fluid jump-shot. I was impressed with his step-back jumper in the 3rd quarter. He showed off his athleticism with a quick transition layup. I was impressed with how he made a deflection/steal and then dribbled the length of the court and finished with a layup. Jackson closed the game out with clutch free-throws.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="750160" first="Jase" last="Crockett"] (2021) |5-8 G| Northern Cass – 24 points, 2 triples, and an impressive 8-9 from the line. He has great handles with multiple moves. Jase has a stellar fake-crossover, hesitation, and crossover. I like how he can pass with his left hand on the perimeter. He has a nice step-back game. I was impressed with his jab step and his first step. Both were very effective and quick. For a smaller guard, he is a tough finisher through contact. Jace is a rock-solid free-throw shooter. He had two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep the game close. I was impressed with his shooting form and his one-dribble pull-up. He looks to be one of the best guards in Region 1.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="1130543" first="Gannon" last="Limke"] (2022) |6-6 F| Hillsboro/Central Valley – 10 points and 6-7 from the free-throw line. He showed off a nice spin-move tonight. Gannon looked good knocking down a mid-range jumper. He is great on the O-boards. Gannon was impressive with the offensive rebound put-backs. He is a physical and athletic player. He was 2-2 at the end of the game to help finish it off.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="1130544" first="Parker" last="Gallagher"] (2022) |5-10 G| Hillsboro/Central Valley – 9 points and 3 triples. He started the game with a pull-up 3-pointer. Parker hit an impressive 3-pointer in the fourth quarter with the shot clock winding down. He has a quick shot. I like how he shoots in rhythm and with good elevation.

5. Jacob Brandt (2024) |6-6 F| Hillsboro/Central Valley – 9 points with 1 three-pointer. He had an impressive offensive rebound put-back basket. Jacob looks to be a strong player. He has a mature looking shot for a 9th grader.

6. [player_tooltip player_id="1135607" first="Brock" last="Carpenter"] (2022) |5-10 G| Northern Cass – 5 points in the game and all of them late in the fourth quarter. He had a nice physical finish in the lane. Brock also had a monster 3-pointer from the corner to keep the game within reach.

7. [player_tooltip player_id="1130545" first="Samuel" last="Preston"] (2021) |6-2 F| Hillsboro/Central Valley – 2 points and they came from the highlight of the game. Samuel blocked a shot and grabbed it in the open court. From there he had a breakaway and he finished the play with a powerful 2-handed dunk that shook the entire gym. He is a long-rangy athlete with good bounce.

8. Kolby VanderWal (2021) |6-1 G| Northern Cass – 2 points in the game. He is left-handed, physical, and an athletic player. He has good eyes and sees the floor well. Kolby looks to be a solid defender.

9. Joseph Nelson (2021) |6-3 F| Northern Cass – 2 points in the game. He works hard on the O-boards. He is a physical frontcourt player. I like how hard Joseph works on defense.

10. [player_tooltip player_id="1135608" first="Jacob" last="Larson"] (2022) |5-9 G| Northern Cass – 4 points and 2-4 from the line. He is a quick wiry guard. Jacob looks to be an exceptional ball-handler.
