Scott’s Branch HS vs Carvers Bay HS

<p>Prep Hoops took in the action last night out in the Choppee Community of Georgetown County. The Scott’s Branch HS Eagles came to the Bear Den to play the host Bears. The game featured both teams undefeated in the region before the night started. The host Bears started off the night with a 29-16 halftime lead. The visiting Eagles came out on fire in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 41-37 heading into the 4th quarter. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="976987" first="Montrez" last="Sinkler"]</strong> gave the Eagles the lead at 42-41 with 6:50 left in the game for the first time. Carvers Bay would eventually take the lead and win the game 52-49 not before the Eagles had a shot at the buzzer to tie it. </p> <p><strong>Mezzatesta reaches Milestone </strong></p> <p>Carvers Bay Head Coach Jeff Mezzatesta recorded his 300th career win last night. The Bears improve to (9-2) on the season. </p> <p><strong>Eagles Trio all Land in Double Digits </strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="927569" first="Tariq" last="Coard"]</strong>, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="865309" first="Randy" last="Gibson"]</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="976987" first="Montrez" last="Sinkler"]</strong> scored 41 points for the Eagles tonight. Coard didn’t play the first quarter but came on strong when he was on the floor. Gibson plays the game with a great deal of intensity and did all of his working attacking the basket. Young a left-handed guard scored 12 points and was the only Bears player to reach double figures. Young really likes to swarm the ball and loves to play 94 feet at all times. </p> <p><strong>Region Standings </strong></p> <p>The Bears now head over to Summerton on Monday to play the Eagles again. The Bears will play CE Murray twice this coming week on Wednesday and Friday. </p> <p>The Bears now stand (3-0) in the region now. The Bears move to (9-2) on the year. </p> <p>Scott’s Branch HS Eagles falls to (8-2) on the season. The Eagles played in the Class 1A State Championship Game last season before falling to Great Falls HS. The Eagles had been riding a 7 game winning streak headed into last nights game. The Eagles lost to Sumter HS (Class 5A) school back on November 21, 2020 in the Zaxby’s Classic 56-49. </p>
