<p>Roughly a week into 2021, competition is beginning to ramp up across the state with a lot of conferences having their first couple of games. In southern Idaho, the Boise school district has finally begun to play games which means that some members of the 5A SIC are beginning to see their first action. This has been a rather different year for basketball, but a lot of players have shown their resiliency and the ability to play anytime and any place. Continue reading for a look at a handful of games from southern Idaho in the past couple of days.</p>
<p><strong>Centennial vs. Timberline:</strong> In one of Timberline’s first games in the 2020-21 season, they were able to surprise a solid Centennial team with a very impressive defensive performance. Holding the Patriots to only 31 points, the Timberwolves were able to use physical play and doubling the post to their advantage to catch Centennial off-guard. Timberline will look to continue building this season in their next couple of games. [player_tooltip player_id="919667" first="Cooper" last="Lumsden"] had a great game for Timberline as he posted 17 points and 5 rebounds. Additionally, [player_tooltip player_id="1108114" first="Wade" last="Zenner"] chipped in 14 points to balance out the scoring.</p>
<p><strong>Eagle vs. Capital:</strong> The Eagle Mustangs put on an impressive offensive display against the Capital Eagles as they scored 85 points. They were leading the entire night and rarely looked back during their rout of Capital as they won by a margin of nearly 30 points. The Mustangs were led by evenly distributed scoring starting with 18 points from Jason Janish, 15 points from Donovan Jones, and 11 points from both [player_tooltip player_id="921080" first="Gage" last="Jones"] and Jaxon Chann. The Mustangs have looked really solid so far this season and they will attempt to continue grinding in the next few weeks.</p>
<p><strong>Ambrose vs. Melba: </strong>Ambrose continued their winning ways with a commanding 20-point victory over Melba recently. The Archers are off to a hot 8-0 start to their season and will look to continue their winning ways as they enter into the regular season and conference play. Ambrose never looked back on their way to victory and were led by [player_tooltip player_id="921084" first="Hudson" last="Hughes"] scoring 23 points, [player_tooltip player_id="969741" first="Ben" last="Blythe"] adding 21 points, and [player_tooltip player_id="969568" first="Johnny" last="Sugarman"] adding 13 points. In a losing effort, [player_tooltip player_id="969749" first="Joe" last="Reiber"] was bright spot with 19 points and 7 rebounds, as well as Braden Volkers scoring 14 points. </p>
