Prep Hoops Next Circuit Makes Its Debut

Cartersville, Ga. — It was a memorable weekend for our team at Prep Hoops Next as we launched our first of many events on the 2021 calendar in the Peach State. The beautiful LakePoint Sports facility served as headquarters for the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-off tournament, as more than 500 athletes and nearly 50 teams descended upon the greater Atlanta area for two amazing days of youth hoops. Here are just a few of my favorite storylines from the event…

An Exciting Year Of Youth Hoops Awaits

It's fair to say that the Prep Hoops Next circuit made a major splash in the youth hoops market with its debut in Georgia. It was a lot of fun to watch squads from Adidas, Nike, Under Armour, as well as several independent teams and programs clash under one roof. Additionally, a number of nationally-ranked teams and players participated in the tournament, which hosted an impressive line-up of fifth through eighth-grade organizations. You can expect the presence of Prep Hoops Next coverage and events to continue expanding their reach with the event series slated to make an appearance in every region of the country in 2021.

Team Teague Makes The Most Of Their Mileage

I've been covering the grassroots circuit long enough to have watched many of the players that are now the namesakes for their own organizations. Such is the case with Team Teague, and as I watched their Class of 2028 group win the 5th grade division Platinum Championship at the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-off on Sunday, my feeling was that they certainly made the family proud, competing with the same effort and intensity that made brothers Jeff (Class of 2007) and Marquis (Class of 2011) highly-recruited prospects on the national scene in their own day. Five thrilling victories against A.O.T. (GA), CP3 Basketball Academy (NC), E1T1 (FL), Team Huncho (GA), Team USC Unleashed (SC) culminated in an unbeaten weekend for this crew.

CP3 Basketball Academy Grabs A Pair Of Titles

The only program at the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-off to win multiple titles, CP3 Basketball Academy Elite posted a pristine 10-0 record between their sixth and seventh-grade squads en route to two championships. Both teams have the necessary pieces to contend for the top spot nationally in their respective classes and are off to a great start to begin the grassroots hoops season. Asterisk Added To Eighth-Grade Title Game

Word traveled quickly that the much-anticipated matchup between Boo Williams (VA) Dreamchasers and E1T1 (FL) Rebels in the 8th grade division championship was, in fact, not played. E1T1 (FL) made the decision not to play the title game having already played an additional game, and following an exhibition victory by Boo Williams (VA) in a match-up with Kingdom Hoops (IA), the Virginia-based program earned the right to be named Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-off champions. My hope is that the matchup will come to fruition at some point this season as one of many that I will look forward to in the Class of 2025. Overall, the division was loaded with individual prospects and I'm convinced it will be exciting for fans to monitor the constant movement in both the Prep Hoops Next National Team Rankings as well as the Prep Hoops Next National Player Rankings if the jostling for position on this weekend was any indication.
