ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Prep Hoops was in the gym watching some hoops at the District League on Saturday night. Here are five takeaways from this event.

THE DMV STAGS IMPRESS

The DMV Stags feature an exciting level of talent. 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="902030" first="Barry" last="Evans"] was assertive throughout the day. He scored with either hand from multiple areas on the floor, hit the glass with aggression, defended with pride, and showcased incredible toughness in the face of adversity. The long lefty wing, who is currently making a strong case as a legit mid-to-high major prospect, is considering a prep into 2022 which will give him an extra year to get his body right. [player_tooltip player_id="1091491" first="Tye" last="Thompson"] is an unheralded local guard that is worthy of some Division One looks as well. He brings a solid blend of skill and athleticism to go along with palpable upside. High Point commit, [player_tooltip player_id="902020" first="Jake" last="Koverman"], exhibited commendable toughness on the defensive end. His effort was contagious among his teammates. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="904648" first="Gavin" last="Walsh"] looked like a different player on Saturday. His physical profile has improved positively, and this has helped him become a better all-around player. Walsh was active defensively. He guarded on the perimeter as well as in the paint. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="1110546" first="Connor" last="Harris"] and 2023 Aidan Harris from St. Mary’s are a couple of new faces who are officially on the radar. Connor is a rugged 6-foot-5 forward who demonstrates ideal toughness. He was all over the place, recording multiple deflections, steals, and blocks while also securing rebounds in or out of his area. Aidan has an intriguing skill set at 6-foot-5. He is a creative scorer who can put the ball in the hole in a variety of ways.

[player_tooltip player_id="904624" first="Christian" last="Watson"] CONTINUES TO IMPROVE

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="904624" first="Christian" last="Watson"] made incredible strides during his sophomore year. He’s taken another leap since. Watson showcased poise and patience while on the ball in half-court sets. He controlled the glass and excelled in transition as per usual. Here’s Watson’s unofficial line from his game against the DMV Stags: 11 points. 3/7 FG. 1/3 3pt FG. 2/2 FT. 8 rebounds. 1 steal.

NEW WORLD IS BUILDING SOMETHING SPECIAL

New World’s 2024 team looks like it will be one to remember. Khani Rooths, who attends Georgetown Prep, is a walking deflection. He’s an incredible athlete who gets his hands on everything while defending. Jamari Arrington, Ty Bevins, Scotty Hubbard, Goap Kodi, Devin Minor, and Kingston Price Jr are among the other prospects from this group who should certainly be tracked moving forward as well.

DOCKERY STANDS OUT FOR A VERY GOOD AKT TEAM

AKT gave New World all they could handle throughout a fiercely contested game. Rob Dockery was the catalyst on both ends. He is a glass cleaner with a unique blend of size, skill, and athleticism. Here’s Dockery’s unofficial line from the 1-point defeat: 19 points. 8/12 FG. 1/2 3pt FG. 1/6 FT. 10 rebounds. 2 assists. 4 blocks. 2 steals. Lafayette Williams from Archbishop Carroll, JR Nelson from Bishop O’Connell, and Nick Goldberg from Bullis were a few other standouts for AKT.

THE SAINTS ARE RUNNING LIKE A WELL-OILED MACHINE

Even without Elliott Black patrolling the paint, the Saints looked quite good. [player_tooltip player_id="1107823" first="Miles" last="Webb"] gives filled in for Black at the 5 and protected the rim effectively. His communication skills are also improving which is a good sign. [player_tooltip player_id="902006" first="Devin" last="Ceaser"], Eric Gordon, Jeremiah Barnes, and [player_tooltip player_id="815601" first="Garrett" last="Brennan"] continuously harassed ball-handlers and forced countless turnovers as a result. Ball pressure is a staple of what the Saints want to do, and when they smell blood things can turn in their favor quickly. Peter Mitchell is a freshman to know from this group. He is a terrific athlete on the wing who rebounds at a very high rate.
