A look at the top games around the state happening Tuesday….

Tuesday, January 26, 2021

Linton/HMB (8-2) @ Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier (9-1)

This is a top-tier matchup in Region 3. The Lions are scoring 64.1 ppg and they are allowing 52.1 ppg. The Rebels are putting up 56.6 ppg and they are allowing 39.4 ppg. [player_tooltip player_id="531491" first="Lucas" last="Schumacher"] is the leader and all-star athlete for Linton. He is a good shooter and an electric scorer. Last week against Central Cass he put up 32 points. [player_tooltip player_id="750172" first="Alex" last="Huber"] is the leader of the Rebels. He is a tough versatile player who can score at all 3 levels. Alex is averaging 21 ppg, 6rpg, and 2 apg. Whichever team controls the tempo will win this game in my opinion. Linton likes to play fast and aggressive. EKM likes to play a bit slower and controlled. What style of play will reign supreme? This could potentially be a preview of the Region 3 Championship game later in the season.

Four Winds/Minnewaukan (9-1) @ Langdon/Edmore/Munich (9-0)

The Indians look to be the top team in District 7. The Cardinals look to be the top team in Region 8. This matchup could be a preview of what we will see in the Region 4 Championship game later this season. Four Winds/Minnewaukan is averaging 73 ppg and holding opposing teams to 49.6 ppg. Langdon/Edmore/Munich is scoring 70.9 ppg and limiting opposing teams to 53.4 ppg. Four Winds is anchored down low back big man [player_tooltip player_id="750159" first="Bronson" last="Walter"]. He is surrounded by skilled athletes [player_tooltip player_id="750170" first="Jaeshaun" last="Shaw"], [player_tooltip player_id="1046356" first="Jayden" last="Yankton"], [player_tooltip player_id="1115603" first="Keldon" last="Keja"], [player_tooltip player_id="1115651" first="Caelen" last="Lohnes"], and [player_tooltip player_id="1115652" first="Jonah" last="Jackson"]. Langdon will counter with its studly brother-backcourt in [player_tooltip player_id="750173" first="Grant" last="Romfo"] and [player_tooltip player_id="750183" first="Simon" last="Romfo"]. The Indians will come at the Cardinals in waves on offense and defense. I think this game will come down to how Langdon handles the pressure and if they can take advantage of Four Winds’ aggressiveness. Check this one out tonight, we are in for a show!

Minot (10-1) @ Bismarck (9-2)

This WDA matchup is going to be a good one. The last time these two teams met it went Bismarck’s way by 8 points. The Magi are out for revenge and are looking to get back at the Demons. Minot is averaging 82.6 ppg and giving up 64.6 ppg. On the other hand, Bismarck is scoring 86.8 ppg and allowing 63.5 ppg. With both squads averaging over 80 points a game, I think we will see a fast-paced contest with loads of 3-pointers being taken. The last time they played the game was in the 60’s, so the tempo may slow a bit with the teams valuing each possession. Minot is led by All-State guard [player_tooltip player_id="750158" first="Deonte" last="Martinez"] and is complemented by quality players in [player_tooltip player_id="1111173" first="Eric" last="Wentz"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1050246" first="Darik" last="Dissette"]. Bismarck will counter with their “big 3” [player_tooltip player_id="731866" first="Gunner" last="Swanson"], [player_tooltip player_id="1046352" first="Treysen" last="Eaglestaff"], and [player_tooltip player_id="750174" first="Max" last="Tschosik"]. The WDA is top-heavy with talented teams. Whoever wins this one will sit at the very top of the WDA for the team being. Who is the best in the West?

Bismarck Legacy (8-3) @ Mandan (8-4)

The Braves from Mandan won the last time these two teams faced off by 9-points. Since then, the Sabers have been on a rampage with wins over Bismarck Century, Bismarck, and Bismarck St. Mary’s. Can the Sabers keep it rolling? Legacy is averaging 74.8 ppg and giving up 62.5 ppg. On the other side, Mandan is scoring 83.6 ppg and giving up 67.2 ppg. Bismarck legacy has a tricky trio with [player_tooltip player_id="750167" first="Nick" last="Kupfer"], [player_tooltip player_id="1046353" first="Zander" last="Albers"], and Lucas Weigel who can really fill up the scoring column. Mandan will come at them with their own elite scoring unit with [player_tooltip player_id="1046360" first="Aaron" last="Grubb"], [player_tooltip player_id="750176" first="Jayce" last="Lowman"], Jacob Pierce, and [player_tooltip player_id="1046334" first="Tyler" last="Thilmony"]. I suspect this one to be a tight game and highly contested. I am predicting this one to be decided by less than 5-points. Check this one out, we have another high-quality WDA game on the docket tonight.
