Top Performers: Sun Bash Miami (Part 1)

<p>The <strong>Sun Bash Miami</strong> showcase is now complete and what an event it was. <strong>Westminster Christian</strong> were great hosts for the ten Florida participants. A special thank you to everyone involved in putting the tournament together under unique circumstances. We hope for a great squeal this Friday/Saturday at the <strong>Sun Bash Tampa</strong>. That event will be held at the <strong>Canterbury School</strong>.</p> <p>Let’s jump into the top performers...</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="818705" first="Taderrius" last="Davis"]</strong> - <em>Miami High Stingarees</em></p> <p>2021 [player_tooltip player_id="818705" first="Taderrius" last="Davis"] did very much what I expected against <strong>North Miami</strong>. The 6-foot-7 wing had 15 points, 15 rebounds, ten assists and five blocks against the Pioneers. I have been firm in calling him one of the best interior players around the region. Furthermore, Davis poses as a guard threat with his athleticism and ability to bring the ball up the floor. His all-around game also makes his teammates better for Miami High. Davis has drawn interest from <strong>Winthrop</strong> and <strong>Southern Illinois</strong>.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="818830" first="Julian" last="Garcia"]</strong> - <em>Mater Lakes Bears</em></p> <p>2021 shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id="818830" first="Julian" last="Garcia"] deserves a lot of credit for his effort against <strong>Westminster Academy</strong>. The 6-foot Garcia scored 18 points and went 5-of-9 from 3-point range. His shooting ability from deep was a big factor in keeping the Bears into the game going into the fourth quarter. Moreover, Garcia had a stretch of consecutive 3-pointers in the second quarter that closed the scoring gap. His leadership as a senior and passing ability are also underrated.</p> <p><strong>Jayden Higgins</strong> - <em>Westminster Christian Warriors</em></p> <p>2021 forward <strong>Jayden Higgins</strong> is a special player for Westminster Christian. The 6-foot-5 forward scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Warriors win over <strong>South Miami</strong>. Higgins runs the floor well and threw down a pair of emphatic dunks in transition against the Cobras. He is a big reason why Westminster Christian has started 4-0 on the season. Higgins doubles up his athleticism as a wide receiver on the football team. He holds offer from <strong>Long</strong> <strong>Island</strong>, <strong>Virginia Military Institute</strong> and <strong>Stetson</strong> from the gridiron.</p> <p><strong>Jordan Bankston</strong> - <em>Gulliver Prep Raiders</em></p> <p>2023 guard Jordan Bankston continues to play well for the young Raiders. The 6-foot Bankston scored 22 points on 9-of-17 from the field (per MaxPreps) against <strong>Miami Northwestern</strong>. Through four contests, Bankston has averaged 20.8 points and four rebounds per game while shooting an even 50 percent from the field. He is a nice piece along with 2023’s <strong>Walter Ray Allen III</strong>, <strong>Paul Karam</strong> and 2024 <strong>Amare Sanders</strong>. The Raiders should continue to get better behind them as the season moves along.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="955591" first="Justin" last="Johnson"] -</strong> <em>Doral Academy Firebirds</em></p> <p>2023 guard/forward [player_tooltip player_id="955591" first="Justin" last="Johnson"] ignited the Firebirds in its 79-66 victory over <strong>Miami Country Day</strong>. The 6-foot-7 Johnson scored a game-high 32 points and was named Player of the Game by our showcase. Johnson is a three-level scorer due to his length and athleticism. He is extremely effective driving into the lane and getting to the rim. Doral Academy is 4-1 thanks to this versatile playmaker.</p> <p><strong>Derrick Edouard</strong> - <em>North Miami Pioneers </em></p> <p>Things have gone pretty well thus far for 2023 <strong>Derrick Edouard</strong> and North Miami. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard has the Pioneers 5-0 after a win over <strong>Miami High</strong> in the Sun Bash. Edouard scored 22 points on 9-of-15 from the field in the 70-59 victory. Moreover, Edouard connected on 4-of-8 3-point attempts. His shooting percentage from long range has him at 57 percent on the season. Edouard is averaging a team-best 14.6 points on 60 percent shooting through five contests.
