The SEC Red could have a lot to say when it comes to the Division 1 state championship this season. The conference will be made up of Ann Arbor Pioneer, Ann Arbor Huron, Ann Arbor Skyline, Saline, Monroe and Temperance Bedford, and Ypsilanti.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

I went with Co-Players of the Year because these 2 are just that special of a backcourt. They are like the head of the snake for a truly special team, both on and off the court.

[player_tooltip player_id="611420" first="Julian" last="Lewis"] (2021, SG, Ann Arbor Huron)

[player_tooltip player_id="811099" first="Devin" last="Womack"] (2021, CG, Ann Arbor Huron)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

[player_tooltip player_id="611420" first="Julian" last="Lewis"] (2021, SG, Ann Arbor Huron)

STORY OF THE YEAR

Ann Arbor Huron’s chase for the state title.

Let’s face it, Huron is loaded and one of the favorites to be crowned the Division 1 state champions.

Ann Arbor Skyline catching the state by surprise.

There hasn’t been a lot of talk lately about the fact that Skyline keeps advancing in the state playoffs. Myself, I’m a believer.

COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR

[player_tooltip player_id="863978" first="Cooper" last="Fairman"] (2022, G/F, Saline)

Fairman was closing in on being a top 50 player in the class of 2022 before an injury. Don’t be surprised if he moves back toward the top 50, or even beyond.

RIVALRY GAMES TO SEE

Ann Arbor Huron vs. Ann Arbor Skyline

This game will go a long way toward determining the SEC Red Champion.

Saline at Bedford

Bedford has one of the best home crowds in southeastern Michigan, and this game usually gets pretty intense.

Ann Arbor Pioneer vs. Ann Arbor Huron

Both Pioneer and Skyline will want to send a message to a loaded Huron squad.

PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE

1st TEAM

[player_tooltip player_id="811116" first="Chris" last="Cayton"] (2021, PG, Ann Arbor Skyline)

Cayton is a fast twitch point that I’d be very comfortable playing through late in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="611420" first="Julian" last="Lewis"] (2021, SG, Ann Arbor Huron)

Lewis might be the best perimeter defender in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="811099" first="Devin" last="Womack"] (2021, CG, Ann Arbor Huron)

Womack is explosive offensively and high percentage finisher at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="611465" first="Kingsley" last="Perkins"] (2021, PF, Ann Arbor Huron)

Perkins, like his running mate, [player_tooltip player_id="611420" first="Julian" last="Lewis"], is elite on the defensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id="969523" first="Dinali" last="DeLoach"] (2021, PF, Ann Arbor Skyline)

DeLoach is primed for a huge senior season and will be among the top post players in the conference.

2nd TEAM

[player_tooltip player_id="811126" first="Lucas" last="Henderson"] (2021, PG, Ypsilanti)

Good luck keeping up with this speedster and playmaker.

[player_tooltip player_id="611480" first="Tyson" last="Edmondson"] (2021, SG, Ann Arbor Huron)

Really, he’s a 1st team player but I just ran out of room. He’ll be a key shooter in Huron’s run at the title.

[player_tooltip player_id="863978" first="Cooper" last="Fairman"] (2022, G/F, Saline)

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times....this young man can play with the best.

[player_tooltip player_id="980066" first="Rasheed" last="Sampson"] (2021, PF, Ann Arbor Pioneer)

Sampson is a strong and athletic post player.

PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH

7 - Monroe

Don’t be surprised if they move up from this spot. They’ve shown signs of being a program on the rise.

6 - Ypsilanti

Don’t hate me for the 6th spot. 3-6 are pretty interchangeable.

5 - Temperance Bedford

That rivalry game above will go along way in determining if they finish higher.

4 - Ann Arbor Pioneer

Pioneer, in my opinion, could finish anywhere from 2-4.

3 - Saline

The Hornets will have a really new looking lineup, but their defense should carry them to a top half of the conference finish.

2 - Ann Arbor Skyline

Skyline and Huron are the odds on favorites to battle for the title.

1 - Ann Arbor Huron

Huron can’t look ahead to the state playoffs. Skyline and company will be hunting them in search of the SEC Red title.
