Week 1 is underway and we have got a big slate of high school hoops going on this week in Indiana. This season is going to be full of uncertainty, but let us dive on in and take a look at some highlights of Wednesday’s night of hoops.

[player_tooltip player_id="569321" first="Kooper" last="Jacobi"] Dominates

Silver Creek came into the season opener against Columbus East without Purdue commit, [player_tooltip player_id="529572" first="Trey" last="Kaufman"]. However, [player_tooltip player_id="569321" first="Kooper" last="Jacobi"] made up for his absence in a huge way. Jacobi led the way for the Dragons with 44 points and 18 rebounds in the contest. The Toledo commit has had big games in the past including a 36 point performance in the Forum Tipoff Classic, but the 44 points and 18 boards set career highs for Jacobi in both categories. It is safe to say that Silver Creek will be fine no matter how long Kaufman is out if Jacobi continues to play at this level.

Warren Central Stars Shine in Opener

Last season, Warren Central fell to Lawrence North, the #1 team in the state, in the Sectional finals. They then underwent a coaching change as Dre Davis Sr. took the head coach position. He earned the first win of his coaching career with a 76-63 victory over Arsenal Tech. [player_tooltip player_id="874117" first="Malik" last="Stanley"] led the talent-laden lineup with a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. [player_tooltip player_id="769654" first="D’Ante" last="Davis"] finished with 15 points and 3 rebounds in his Warriors debut. [player_tooltip player_id="787634" first="Chandler" last="Jackson"] had 15 points and 4 rebounds, and [player_tooltip player_id="783172" first="Sean" last="Black"] dominated on both ends with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals in the win. This roster is full of talent up and down and definitely, has Warren Central right back at the top of the state competing at the highest level.

Plainfield holds on in Overtime

Flashback to almost one year ago to the day, Plainfield defeated Avon in a back and forth game that came down to the final possession. Now if we come back to Wednesday, Plainfield was facing Avon again in a game that was eerily similar. Plainfield dominated early on, but Avon made a late push to take a 58-48 lead late in the fourth quarter. However, Plainfield would finish regulation on an 11-1 run to send it to overtime, and the Quakers would hold on in the extra period 65-63. [player_tooltip player_id="874172" first="Ian" last="Scott"] led the way for Plainfield with 24 points and 13 rebounds in the win. [player_tooltip player_id="874130" first="Aidan" last="Booher"] also added 18. [player_tooltip player_id="870246" first="Chrishon" last="McCray"] and Mitchell O’Mara were outstanding for the Orioles. They finished with 23 and 22 points respectively and each pulled down 9 boards. These two teams could face each other in both the Hendricks County Tournament and Sectional 12 play this season, and if they face off again, you had better believe it will come down to the wire again.
