Prep Hoops NorCal was in Oakland California, Soldier Town to evaluate a quality group of prospects, hoping to showcase their talents and get a shot at the next level. This was one of the few events in NorCal that I have been able to view in person. The Central Valley, Sacramento, and the Bay Area all had quality representation at this event. Here’s a top group of prospects I was able to see play.

[player_tooltip player_id="946524" first="Robert" last="Vaihola"] 6’7 Forward, Archbishop Riordan 2021

From what I’ve seen from Vaihola he has improved his game in key areas that will make him a good pick up for a team looking for a player at the next level. The strong body, good hands prospects, has really opened his game up. He’s trimmed down a bit, more fit in what he’s trying to accomplish. He’s increased his foot speed, and handles which makes him really tough to stop from 15ft and in. Vaihola has added some range to his jumper, and will hit the mid-range, and 3pt shot. A solid post player with decent footwork, he can pass out of the double, and shows good vision sending passes from the high post area.

Robert Zemmo 6’2 Point Guard/Combo, Oakland Tech 2022

When I see Zemmo play, I start thinking of point guards from Oakland, tough minded competitors, and fearless. Zemmo has the tools that will take him to the next level. He's a class of 2022 prospect and is poised to make that jump, with continued development. He’s an electrifying player who never stops, he’s on go. The speed, handles, and ability to burst by defenders on his way to the rim. He can absorb the hits, and can finish regularly. He can run an offense and is a quality passer. He can hit the mid-range, 3pt shot, and will defend nonstop. He’s a little thin needs to bulk up a bit.

[player_tooltip player_id="775792" first="Emmanuel" last="Callas"] 6’5 Wing/Guard, Campolindo 2021

Callas after starting his high school career as a 6’4 post player, has transitioned his game into a quality player who’s very comfortable on the perimeter. His handles and ability to take it strong from the wings are noticeable. He has to be accounted for on the wings with his improved shooting and range from mid-range, and 3pt areas. A solid rebounder who can push it himself, makes good passes and sees his teammates for open looks. he’s a tough competitor who works on both ends.

Qiant Myers 6’4 Point Guard, Roosevelt, 2021

My first look at Myers, an impressive point guard at 6’4. He has good vision he sees the floor very well in transition and in half court sets. Myers first step and speed allows him to attack the paint on a consistent basis, then dish to teammates with quality passes. He’s rangy and kind of thin but his superb handles tells me he’s a true pass first point guard who can run a team. He’ll raise his stock with an improved jumper, and decides to be a more effective scorer on the penetration. A prospect to keep an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id="766852" first="James" last="Freeman"] 6’5 Forward, Capital Christian, 2022

Freeman is one of those athletes that can jump out of the gym, and will dunk if he gets the ball anywhere around the rim. The high motor class of 2022 has plenty of room to expand his game with his continued skill development, he’s a prospect that can’t go unnoticed. Right now he rebounds, and plays as hard as any player on the court. Freeman can defend multiple positions, and he sprints in transition. He’s an effective scorer inside off two feet, a good passer from the high post. An improved jump shot will see his stock rise. Freeman had the best dunk of the showcase.
