While we're certainly taking things one day at a time, the prospects of high school basketball occurring in the DMV this winter are more promising now than they have been in quite a while. In anticipation of this, we will be rolling out preview content over the next several weeks. Here is a look at the Preseason All-Senior Teams for Virginia Public Schools.

First Team

G - [player_tooltip player_id="697140" first="Jacob" last="Cooper"]

The reigning 5A State Player of the Year, Cooper has looked great so far this fall. Expect another consistently productive season from the reliable lead guard.

G - [player_tooltip player_id="798691" first="Jason" last="Nelson"]

Richmond-bound [player_tooltip player_id="798691" first="Jason" last="Nelson"], last year’s 2A State Player of the Year, was a safe bet to make the first-team when considering this list. John Marshall’s dependable floor general is in good form at the moment and looks set for another amazing season.

G - [player_tooltip player_id="798699" first="Andre" last="Speight"]

Speight, who is headed to Mount St. Mary’s, has been a central figure in South County’s recent success under Coach Mike Robinson. One year removed from being named to the VHSL 6A All-State First Team, he’s a strong candidate to win Player of the Year.

F - [player_tooltip player_id="798698" first="Quentin" last="Livingston"]

Livingston might be considered a dark-horse on this first team, but his credentials and recent play speak volumes about his potential. He was named Second Team All-State in 4A last season, and will once again be a key player at King’s Fork.

C - [player_tooltip player_id="543842" first="Roosevelt" last="Wheeler"]

Wheeler has enjoyed terrorized opposing front-courts throughout his high school career and was a no-brainer pick to make first-team here.

Second Team

G - [player_tooltip player_id="798739" first="Cam" last="Cormany"]

2A All-State First-Teamer [player_tooltip player_id="798739" first="Cam" last="Cormany"] has impressed this fall. Expect him to perform well once again this season and be recognized accordingly.

G - [player_tooltip player_id="798682" first="Elvin" last="Edmonds"]

There is a lot to like about Edmonds, who was named to the VHSL 3A All-State Third Team last year. He should continue to do the heavy lifting at Hopewell and ultimately be in consideration for State Player of the Year.

G - Greg Spurlock

Spurlock, who is headed to Coppin State, is a gem from Loudoun County who was named to the 5A Second Team last year. He’s played well this fall and appears poised to build from his breakout junior campaign.

F - Elijah Kennedy

Kennedy excelled for the Stallions while earning a spot on the 5A First Team last year. Green Run’s promising wing has some upside and is still improving, thus making him an easy pick here.

C - [player_tooltip player_id="798687" first="Avery" last="Ford"]

A defensive menace who is also a star on the gridiron, Ford is a respected hooper who was named to the 6A and All-Met First Teams last year. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be able to replicate his performances from the past season.

Third Team

G - [player_tooltip player_id="798711" first="Chris" last="Kuzemka"]

Centreville’s [player_tooltip player_id="798711" first="Chris" last="Kuzemka"] is on a mission after missing his junior season due to injury. If you don’t know who he is now, there’s a good chance you will by season’s end.

G - Trey Nelson

Trey Nelson will have an expanded role this season and should have Patriot running like a well-oiled machine this winter. Keep an eye on the southpaw point guard in the 6A ranks.

F - [player_tooltip player_id="798688" first="Jaylani" last="Darden"]

Darden is considered among the top available seniors in the state, and certainly one of the best in the 757. Expect last year’s 5A First-Teamer to continue playing at a high-level.

F - [player_tooltip player_id="798715" first="Tyrell" last="Harris"]

Harris will without a doubt be an important piece for Coach Honore at Potomac once again this year. He will be going for back-to-back 6A First Team Selections.

C - Trenton Picott

Picott is a sleeper from Northern Virginia who has been a very important player for South County for a while now. This should be his breakout season, and he checks in conservatively on the third team here.
