The 6A classification in my opinion is by far the deepest and most talent-rich classification in the state. And early into this COVID season some of that talent has really made its mark.

From the top of the map to the bottom and all parts in between this classification has it all from dynamic lead guards to high flying wings to dominant big men.

Here is a look at some of the top prospects in the deepest classification in the State.

2019-20 State Champion: Huffman

Area 1

[player_tooltip player_id="890737" first="Barry" last="Dunning"], 6’6 SF, McGill-Toolen: Our top-ranked player in the class of 2022 is the total package. He can shoot it with range, put it on the floor and score in the midrange, or get all the way to the basket and finish above the rim. He is a willing defender who is a great shot blocker for his build and skill set. Considered one of the 30 best juniors in the entire country look for him and his team to improve off a very successful 2019-20 season. After opting out of the travel ball season due to COVID concerns looking forward to seeing this prospect try and lead his team to an area championship.

Area 3

[player_tooltip player_id="801054" first="RayQuan" last="Taylor"], 6’9 PF, Carver-Montgomery: The recent Austin Peay commit has vastly improved over the past year. He has extended his range to the 3-point line making him a real threat to knock down the long ball. He is the best lob threat in the state as he lives around the rim. The Wolverines failed to make it to the Regionals last season for the 1st time in it seems like forever. With the addition of transfer and Ball State signee [player_tooltip player_id="869596" first="Jaylin" last="Sellers"] look for "Slim" to hopefully lead his team back to Birmingham.

Area 4

[player_tooltip player_id="725180" first="Caleb" last="Paige"], 6’4 CG, and [player_tooltip player_id="725181" first="Josh" last="Paige"], 6’4 SG, Eufaula: This set of twins complement each other very well as they play off each other with that sibling intuition. Looking to capitalize off their Final 4 run last season the Tigers look to get back to Birmingham but this time leave with the coveted Blue trophy. After having a fairly young squad last season look for some young guys like [player_tooltip player_id="802668" first="Jalen" last="Coleman"] to step up and solidify that point guard position and try and lead them back to Birmingham.

Area 14

[player_tooltip player_id="613494" first="Brody" last="Peebles"], 6’2 SG, Hartselle: We know, we know Brody is a bucket! The recent Liberty signee is already averaging over 40 points a game so far this season and showing why he is one of the best scorers in the country. Don’t get it twisted though this guy is not empty stats or a guy putting up big numbers on a bad team. The Tigers are coming off a Final Four run last season and have improved the pieces around this Mr. Basketball candidate.
