[player_tooltip player_id="969739" first="Matt" last="Hall"] is a 6’5" shooting guard/forward from the class of 2021. Last season, Hall helped lead New Plymouth as a core piece of the offense and defense as well as a major contributor of points, rebounds, and overall minutes played. In the upcoming season, Matt will attempt to increase all of these categories while leading the Pilgrims to a shot at their district title before a run at the state championship. Continue reading for a breakdown of [player_tooltip player_id="969739" first="Matt" last="Hall"]’s skills and abilities on both sides of the ball ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Defense: Hall is a solid defender for the Pilgrims. He has long arms and likes to use his body to throw opposing players off their game with his physicality. Matt has great lateral quickness and can guard both guards and bigs with relative ease. He is best when matched up against opposing posts and he does an excellent job of pushing them away from the block. Hall plays with his hands up on defense and is an active shot blocker and makes great reads on open passing lanes. Against guards, he is capable of keeping them in front when a switch occurs and he spaces and traces to the best of his abilities. Hall is an excellent rebounder and routinely crashes the glass on both sides of the ball.

Offense: On the opposite side of the ball, Matt is a great offensive talent. At 6’5", Hall is a miss-match for a lot of opposing defenders. He has a lot of great guard skills and can easily get by bigs, and he also has great footwork in the paint and touch around the rim making him a tough cover for smaller guards. From the perimeter, Hall has a great looking jump shot with extended range that he is eager to shoot. He also has a nice pull-up jumper and the ability to get by a defender before finishing around the rim with either hand. He has great handles and can dribble the ball up the court and run an offense. As a passer, Hall has great vision and routinely makes the best pass at the right time.

Overall: Altogether, Matt is a great basketball talent that can dominate in a lot of areas. On defense, he is a capable defender that can guard any position. On offense, he can score from anywhere and he is a really tough cover for opposing defenders. Hall would make a great 3 or 4 at the next level.
