Player Breakdown: Kolton Holt

Last season, Kolton was one of the leading scorers, rebounders, and all-around contributor for a talented Mackay squad. In the upcoming season, Holt will look to help the Miners find their way back to the state tournament after a successful run in their district tournament. Continue reading for a breakdown of Kolton’s skills and abilities on both sides of the ball ahead of the 2020-21 season.</p> <p><strong>Defense:</strong> On the defensive side of the ball, Kolton is a force in the paint. He has great size and uses his body effectively against anyone he guards. He is light on his feet and does a great job of using his strength to overpower weaker post players and he can force them into taking tough shots. As a shot blocker, Holt rarely leaves his feet and he contests and blocks a lot of shots by putting his hands straight up and allowing the offense to run into him, where they essentially hit a brick wall. Against guards, Kolton holds his own and can keep them in front the majority of the time. He moves well from side to side and he works hard to keep opposing guards in front. Holt is a monster of a rebounder and he can easily get to double digits in a game when the ball is bouncing his way on both ends of the floor.</p> <p><strong>Offense:</strong> Holt is a tough matchup for a lot of opposing players. His strength allows him to work well in the post where he battles for position and has the ability to overpower weaker defenders. He has great footwork and has excellent touch around the rim. He can finish with either hand and is strong in the post to power through defenders. He is always capable of reaching 15-20 points on any given night and he does a lot of his damage off of rebounds and put backs. As a passer, Kolton has great court vision and he can always find his teammates cutting off of the post for an easy basket at the rim.</p> <p><strong>Overall:</strong> Altogether, Kolton is a really solid player for Mackay. On defense, he is a force at the rim and plays hard. On offense, he is a great rebounder that plays incredibly well right at the rim. Holt would make a great 4 at the next level.</p>
