Last season, Covy was one of the best players for Garden Valley and he showed lots of shooting ability, tremendous effort, and the ability to lead his teammates. In the upcoming season, Kelly will look to lead the Wolverines on a quest for a district title and a shot at the state tournament. Continue reading for a breakdown of Covy’s skills and abilities on both sides of the ball ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Defense: Covy is a solid defender for the Wolverines. He plays with a lot of heart and energy and pressures the ball relentlessly. Kelly has long arms and strong hands that he uses to disrupt ball handlers and he is great at poking the ball away from weaker offensive players. He likes to jump through passing lanes and he can push the ball forward in order to start a fast break opportunity. Kelly does not back down when he is switched onto a big as well. He attempts to work his way around and front and he does a great job of using his strength to push post players away from the block. As a rebounder, Kelly always crashes the boards on both ends of the floor and grabs a handful of rebounds per game.
Offense: Kelly is a great offensive talent for Garden Valley. He is a pure scorer that can score in a variety of ways. He is an excellent shooter from deep and posted a game last season with 7 three-pointers made. He is an aggressive shooter and always looks for his shot whenever he feels that he is open. He has great handles that he uses to get by defenders before finishing at the rim or pulling up for a mid-range jumper. He is an extremely skilled guard and a huge source of scoring for the Wolverines. He is also a really great passer and likes to get out in transition so that he can get his teammates in positions to score easy baskets.
Overall: Altogether, Covy is a great basketball player. He is a defensive stopper that plays hard and with lots of energy. On offense, he can score from anywhere and has a deadly shot from the perimeter. Kelly would be a great 2-guard at the next level of competition.
