PDE's Preseason Picks: Class 2A All-State Team

The preseason picks for the class 2A All-state team consists of everything from the reigning 2A Most Outstanding player to three state champions. With a few household names and a couple of surprises, these two preseason teams should be some of the most talented to date. 1st Team (In alphabetical order) [player_tooltip player_id="530977" first="Jourdain" last="Dishmond"] (6’7" Senior / Menard) [player_tooltip player_id="931060" first="Deshawn" last="Jackson"] (6’3" Senior / Pickering) [player_tooltip player_id="970120" first="Chris" last="Lockett"] (6’4" Sophomore / Isidore Newman) [player_tooltip player_id="765941" first="Kashie" last="Natt"] (6’2" Senior / Rayville) [player_tooltip player_id="530995" first="Carlos" last="Stewart Jr."] (6’2" Senior / Dunham) [player_tooltip player_id="931060" first="Deshawn" last="Jackson"] has been on the second team two years going. Even with him playing football this season, I think he still dominates on the hardwood and garners a first team selection. [player_tooltip player_id="765941" first="Kashie" last="Natt"] is the heart and soul of Rayville. He is a double-double waiting to happen and I think he will repeat first team honors. [player_tooltip player_id="530977" first="Jourdain" last="Dishmond"] did not make any team on last season. He will be the focal point of this year’s version of the Eagles and bully his way to a first team selection. [player_tooltip player_id="970120" first="Chris" last="Lockett"] is one of the most talented players to come around in years. He is top ranked nationally and can hold his own with anyone and against any team. I think he moves to the first team while trying to lead Isidore Newman to a state championship. Santa Clara commit Carlos Stewart is the reigning 2A Most Outstanding Player and has a good chance at retaining that title. He is the best two-way player in the state and shows it night in and night out. Unless something happens, he will be a lock, first team selection. 2nd Team (In alphabetical order) [player_tooltip player_id="1051631" first="J’Michael" last="Gray"] (6’0" Junior / Franklin) [player_tooltip player_id="1051626" first="Jamarrius" last="Johnson"] (6’4" Senior / Ferriday) [player_tooltip player_id="781843" first="Tawasky" last="Johnson"] (6’1" Senoir / Port Allen) [player_tooltip player_id="781845" first="Jalen" last="Knox"] (6’4" Junior / Port Allen) [player_tooltip player_id="1045512" first="Parker" last="McNees"] (6’2" Senior / Notre Dame-Crowley) The 2A defending champions are a one-two punch that will have them in contention for the title again. [player_tooltip player_id="781843" first="Tawasky" last="Johnson"] has the point guard game to handcuff defenses because he can score and pass with flair and efficiency. He will definitely push for a first team selection but will probably end up on the 2nd team. Jalen Knox can punish teams on the boards and scoring inside. While he did not make either team last year, I think that will have him on a major mission to prove the sportswriters of the state that they were wrong. [player_tooltip player_id="1051631" first="J’Michael" last="Gray"] was the 7-2A district MVP and helped Franklin make it to the quarterfinals before losing to Lakeview. Gray will have them poised to make another run. He might very well make a run at MOP and the first team as well. I would not be surprised. Speaking of surprises, [player_tooltip player_id="1045512" first="Parker" last="McNees"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1051626" first="Jamarius" last="Johnson"] are two people I can see making the 2nd team without issue. Johnson is a double-double waiting to happen and can get up and down the floor. He is rugged but talented dfference maker on the floor. McNees can flat out score the ball. He is labeled as one of the better shooters in the 2021 class. Parker will put up numbers for his new team and that alone may get him to the second team. Of course there will be other players who will come to the forefront as the season goes along. These players, especially the first team, will be ones to watch as the season tips on November 16th.
