Here’s a look at some additional players who stood out to me.
1. David Moon – Laguna Hills 2021
Moon is a solid point guard. He’s a patient floor leader and knows how to run an offense. He has great vision; very unselfish and looks for his teammates. Does well in transition or in halfcourt sets; he can find cutters around the rim and shooters on the perimeter. Reads the defense well and adjusts. He’s crafty off the dribble and can shoot. Can create his own offense and shoots it consistently from three-point range.
2. Corey White – Narbonne 2021
White has a very good feel for the game. He’s another natural point guard and smart player. He can handle defensive pressure and he dribbles under control. Dribbles with his head up and he pushes the ball well in transition. He looks to pass, but he can score as well. He uses his handles and quickness to get to the rim and he can shoot from the outside. He should be in line to have a strong senior season.
3. JoJo Johnson JoJo Johnson 6'1" | SG Westchester | 2021 State – Westchester 2021
The lefty shooter is one of the more underrated players in SoCal. He’s very comfortable with the ball in his hands and making plays. A crafty ball-handler who can lull defenders to sleep and hit them with a step back jumper. He sprints out in transition and finishes at the rim. Consistent shooter from three-point range. Solid off the bounce; he can pull up for a jumper or get all the way to the rim. Good vision and playmaking; he’s been one of the showcase’s leaders in assists.
4. Kaleb Smith – Los Osos 2022
Smith has the skills to be one of the most versatile and effective big men in SoCal. He has good size and he uses it defensively in the paint. He is a solid shot blocker and contests everything that comes into the lane. Offensively, he he’s a handful to guard in the post. He has good footwork and gets good position. Strong finisher at the rim who can make quick moves around the basket. He can step out and shoot the midrange too.
