Jaylen Baker Jaylen Baker 6'2" | SG Detroit Westside | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-2, SG, Detroit Westside)
I’m looking for great things out of Baker after bursting on the scene last year and earning Second Team All PSL. He is an excellent scorer with the ability to create his own shot and dribble dive and finish. He is definitely the leader on his team. He works hard and has a solid basketball IQ. Colleges take notice.
Kwesi Henry Kwesi Henry 5'11" | CG Detroit Loyola | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-0, PG, Detroit Loyola)
Henry is a scholar/athlete who has all the tools. I saw him play several times and I love his creative play, leadership and unselfishness. He can basically do what he wants on the court. He will finish with either hand. He can shoot from both the midrange and the 3 point arc. He will consistently find the open man. He has good court vision. Defensively he has quick hands and quick feet. He is college ready.
Alonzo Fears Alonzo Fears 6'1" | CG Detroit Cristo Rey | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-1, CG, Detroit Cristo Rey)
This young man said “All I need is one chance from one college” and he is playing like he means it. I believe he needs one chance from numerous colleges. He is a scoring machine but what has impressed me is how hard he has worked to improve every facet of his game. Fears is primed to have one outstanding senior season. College coaches remember he only needs one chance.
David Hughes David Hughes 6'6" | PF Detroit Edison | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-6, PF, Detroit Edison)
Hughes impressed me the entire summer. I love how he wants to play defense and guard the opponent’s best player. He is a strong and dominant player in the post. He can jump out the gym and finish with rim rattling dunks. But the scary part that I have started to notice is his ability to hit his jump shot. His range is continually improving. When he perfects this portion of his game the sky is the limit.
Jahlani Thornton Jahlani Thornton 6'5" | PF DEPSA | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-5, SF, DEPSA)
I love this young man’s game. Just watch his play doing his senior and it will show that he is a D-1 caliber player. The energy he plays with is impressive. His play shows how hard he has been working on his game. Where he used to run the floor, fill the lanes and finish strong, he is now creating is shot off the dribble. Thornton has also gotten stronger physically and this has improved his play in the paint. He takes pride in playing defense.
