The event featured teams from the 757, 804, 703, 434 and 540 area codes, and was chock full of talent for all levels. The games were competitive, well coached and gave the kids a much needed opportunity to get seen in an unprecedented time.
Here’s a look at part two of the 2023 and 2024 standouts, featuring 5 guys who had big days last Saturday.
John St. Germain John St. Germain 6'2" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State VA | 6’0” PG | CBG 434 2023
St. Germain looks every bit like he’s the top point guard in the 2023 class so far, as he is highly skilled and plays with poise well beyond his years. He’s a strong guard that can handle pressure and is very shifty with the rock as he can change direction and break guys down in isolation situations and he is equally capable of making plays for others or finishing in traffic when he gets in the paint. He can score it from all three levels as he shoots it from deep and shoots the pull-up well, and he has great instincts on both ends of the floor.
Alex Chaikan | 5’11” PG | Team Fastbreak 2023
Chaikan is a young guard in the Williamsburg area that will be interesting to watch develop, as he surprised with his skill set and toughness throughout session 3. He’s a guy who’s likely still growing and will continue to develop, but his base skill set is solid as he can play on and off the basketball and plays with a good motor as well. He is shifty off the bounce, he can shoot it from deep and he’s a crafty finisher with both hands around the rim.
AJ Clark AJ Clark 6'2" | SG Menchville | 2023 State VA | 6’2” G | Hard 2 Guard 2023
Clark continues to show that he’s next up at Menchville when their senior core leaves after this year. He has tons of tools that will make him a two way impact guy as he has good size and strength, he’s a natural athlete who can play above the rim and make energy plays and he’s shifty and has a quick first step. He’s a well rounded and tough player who is just scratching the surface with how good he can be.
Damon Thompson | 5’9” PG | CBG Blue Magic 2024
Thompson continued to get better throughout each session of the CBG Series, and this was his coming out party as he was absolutely fantastic in their first game of the day, a win against the NOVA Cavs where he went for an impressive 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 4-for-7 from deep. He’s a tough minded and well poised lead guard with a great skill set, and if he can continue to grow and get stronger he’ll be one of the top guards in the area. He’s highly skilled and can score from multiple levels, he’s a good ball handler and he can defend on and off the ball as well.
Martez Harris | 6’4” WF | CBG Neptunes 2024
Harris is a very intriguing prospect that already has a terrific frame for his age and showed that he can shoot it at a high clip as well. While his Neptunes’ team is loaded with experienced talent and D1 prospects, Harris is a guy I believe will find his way into more and more time as the season goes on and he’s going to be a very good one to watch moving forward. He’s a natural athlete and projects to be a versatile defender, he can shoot it from deep and found many ways to be productive on both ends.
