Saturday October 31st I attended Anthony Ray’s 22nd annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase at Inspire Courts in Gilbert, AZ. They were boys and girls teams from all over the state. Each team played two games and I watched the first half of the all-day schedule.

Here were some of the seniors that shined when I viewed their teams:

[player_tooltip player_id="885820" first="Jalen" last="Scott"] Paradise Honors

-The top passer in the AIA showed off his skills. He gets the ball out of his hands so quickly and puts it right into his teammates shooting pockets. He snaps his wrist with his left or right hand and it's out like a frozen rope. His shooting form has improved dramatically. The Colorado State commit will definitely score more this year and still possibly lead the state in assists.

[player_tooltip player_id="809675" first="Colin" last="Carey"] Sunrise Mountain

-An improving senior keeps getting better every year. He is arguably the most versatile scorer in the entire AIA. He is a good catch 3pt shooter and moves without the ball to find an open spot. He has a quick release and he springs up so quickly to grab rebounds. He impressively has the mid-post fade-away and his IQ is very high. He has become a little stronger in the last year and defends guards on the perimeter and forwards in the post.

[player_tooltip player_id="932093" first="John" last="Gaines"] Glenview College Prep

-A pure PG with athleticism and real speed. He blows by his opponents on the regular and consistently gets into the lane and drops it off to a teammate or finds an open shooter. He has impressive body control and his handle is extremely tight to handle pressure. He runs this prep team to perfection.

[player_tooltip player_id="703827" first="Steven" last="Cervantes Jr"] Mesa

-His IQ and feel are really high for the game but its his shooting that separates him from many. He is undersized but has deep range and changes speeds to get the defense off of him. He can stop on a dime and pull-up off the dribble. He is a smart passer and the Jackrabbits look tougher than last year.

[player_tooltip player_id="703853" first="Jose" last="Miguel"] Heritage Maricopa

-One of the more consistent shooters in the class. He likes the short corners off the catch but he can also pull-up from mid-range. He is a cerebral passer and he can play the 1-4 for them in a pinch with his length, IQ and skill.

[player_tooltip player_id="809707" first="LeRoy" last="Williams"] Williams Field

-A physical low post beast is hard to cover inside the paint. He uses his dominant left hand to punish his opponents inside. He can hit the elbow and in jumpers and cleans the glass with his girth, strong hands and size.

[player_tooltip player_id="703848" first="Jimari" last="Grayson"] Mesa

-A two-way scoring guard is very physical scoring it inside. He uses his upper body strength, speed, quick burst into the lane and athleticism to get to the rim and score. He has good body control to score on difficult layups plus has good lateral quicks to defend on the ball. He uses the crow hop and can euro his way to score it.

[player_tooltip player_id="809692" first="Montez" last="Taylor"] Williams Field

-A blur in the open court has the ball on a string. He is undersized but can control a game with his speed and handle. He has a real burst to the cup and can finish with his left or right hand. He can pull-up from mid to the 3pt line and get into the teeth of the defense and drop off a dime.

[player_tooltip player_id="809709" first="Tanner" last="Crawford"] Mesa

-An athletic quickly improving 4-man can face-up to the 3pt line and plays above the rim on the break. He missed all of last year from his transfer from Williams Field and he has clearly improved his game. He can score with his back to the basket with nice post moves and he rebounds well using his strength and athleticism. His stock is up.
