Before the days of position-less basketball calling a guy, a "Tweener" had a negative connotation. It was like saying, "he doesn’t handle it well enough to play the point, but is not big enough for the wing" or "he is too small for the post." However, in today’s 5 out fun and gun style systems being a big guy that can do multiple things is now an asset.

The 2023 class is full of these types of guys who over the next several years we should see them really develop into big-time "Tweener" types of guys.

[player_tooltip player_id="836599" first="Cade" last="Phillips"], 6’8 PF, Westbrook: The top overall prospect in the class is a legit Power 5 prospect today. His ability to communicate on the floor is one of his biggest attributes. He is an absolute beast on the glass with the ability to gobble up rebounds on both ends of the floor. He has good hands and his game will continue to stretch out as he continues to progress.

[player_tooltip player_id="1070701" first="Tavares" last="Gordon"], 6’6 PF, Hoover: That high energy guy who you simply have to have on the court. He does all the things that it takes to win basketball games without getting many accolades for his efforts early on. He is developing on the offensive end of the floor which will make him an even more valuable prospect going forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="836588" first="Zach" last="Gray"], 6’6 PF, Spain Park: This long and athletic prospect will project to a wing position on the next level and has he continues to develop. he plays with lots or energy and has a passion on the court all coaches like to see. He can shoot it from the 3 with consistency and does a good job of putting it on the floor and finishing at the basket and above the rim. He can play in the post on both ends of the floor and could develop into a high volume rebounder as he gets stronger.

[player_tooltip player_id="970638" first="Rome" last="Yarbrough"], 6’4 PF, Haileyville: Solid! After seeing him several times over the summer I was impressed with him each time. He will more than likely play out of position to fil need on his high school team but that’s why he may be hit with the "Tweener" label. He is a good shooter and being forced to play out of position has allowed him to develop his inside game including defensive rebounding. Look for him to be a do it all guy this season and moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="972578" first="Kelby" last="Collins"], 6’5 PF, Gardendale: This guy is a load. He is a big and physical guy who is a perfect complement to recent Georiga Tech signee, [player_tooltip player_id="887017" first="Jalon" last="Moore"]. He is tough to handle on the block and does a good job carving out space in the paint to eat of rebounds. He is a standout on the football field as an outside linebacker so you know that means he is extremely physical and doesn’t shy away from contact.
