The 2022 class is loaded with big-time athletes, headlined by the Patrick School’s Zion Cruz. Blair Academy’s duo of [player_tooltip player_id="850672" first="Kyle" last="Cuffee Jr."] and [player_tooltip player_id="850671" first="Otega" last="Oweh"] should provide plenty of highlights this season. Some of the players in the class do more than just compete on the hardwood as they play other sports during the year. Here are the top dual-sport athletes in the 2022 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="850678" first="Keon" last="Sabb"], 6’3 SG Williamstown

Sabb’s collegiate future is destined for the gridiron with schools like Clemson, Ohio State and Florida in his top 15. The 6’3 guard is known for finishing above the rim and is at his best attacking in transition. Sabb is unafraid of contact around the basket as he knows how to get to the free throw line. He skies for rebounds on both ends of the floor and uses this athleticism to swat shots around the rim. Sabb is a talented athlete with the potential to maybe play more than one sport at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1013052" first="Logan" last="Howland"], 6’8 PF Westfield

Howland is one of the top big men in Union County and it should be on full display this season. The 6’8 power forward plays tight end for the Westfield football team, which creates a mismatch in the redzone. Howland knows how to create space for himself down and has a nice touch around the basket. He talks on the defensive end and is capable of knocking down mid-range jumpers. Howland is a skilled post player who should be the go-to guy for Westfield this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="901983" first="DJ" last="Thomson"], 6’2 SG Keyport

Thomson has been an impact player for Keyport since he started his varsity career. The 6’2 guard is a big-time scorer who can get to the rim and draw contact. Thomson plays with good anticipation on the defensive end, something he gets from playing corner back on the Red Raiders football team. He has a good release on his jumper and is an underrated passer. Thomson was one of the top scorers in the Shore Conference last season and should do it again for Keyport in 2020-21.

[player_tooltip player_id="931029" first="Chase" last="Clarke"], 6’5 SF Newark Academy

Clarke was one of the top scorers in the state last season and should do so again in 2020-21. The 6’5 forward has a strong frame which he uses to finish through contact around the basket. Clarke is tough to keep off the glass and can finish over the top of defenders. He is a standout wide receiver and safety on the gridiron, which is part of the reason for his success on the boards. Clarke will be a force again in Essex County as he returns to lead the Newark Academy attack.

[player_tooltip player_id="901965" first="Charles" last="Anyichie"], 6’7 PF Ranney

Anyichie has been a force on the soccer field for the Panthers as he paces the team with 14 goals. The 6’7 forward likes to finish above the rim and has a nice touch close to the basket. Anyichie is a big-time athlete, which he uses to swat shots close to the basket. His motor does not stop on both ends of the floor, which he also uses on the soccer field. Anyichie has a bright future ahead of him with the capability of playing either basketball or soccer at the next level.

Other Players to Watch:

[player_tooltip player_id="931027" first="Alex" last="Bauman"], 6’4 SF Red Bank Catholic

[player_tooltip player_id="931025" first="Geoff" last="Schroeder"], 6’0 CG Rumson Fair-Haven

[player_tooltip player_id="1013060" first="Logan" last="Blake"], 6’6 PF Delaware Valley

[player_tooltip player_id="1013047" first="Savon" last="Myers"], 6’4 SF Manchester Township

[player_tooltip player_id="901967" first="Jonathon" last="Wyatt"], 6’3 SG St. Thomas Aquinas
