South Jersey basketball is on the rise after Camden’s dominant 29-1 season last year. The High is not the only team with talented players as St. Augustine, Camden Catholic and Paul VI all have seniors who will play D1 basketball next season. The point guard play in South Jersey is very good, especially in the 2021 class. Here are the top 2021 lead guards in South Jersey.

[player_tooltip player_id="900297" first="Tazir" last="Cantey"], 6’0 Eastern

Cantey will be thrust into a new role after transferring to Eastern in the offseason, but he is still a talented guard ready for a new opportunity. The Lindenwold transfer is a bucket getter as he can score at all three levels. Cantey has a good handle and knows how to finish through contact around the basket. He is an underrated passer and knows how to move his feet on the defensive end. Cantey is a scoring machine who should have a big senior year for Eastern.

[player_tooltip player_id="927391" first="Martin" last="Anguelov"], 6’1 Wildwood Catholic Academy

The Crusaders need someone to emerge as their go-to scorer and they have one in Anguelov. The 6’1 guard is a sniper from behind the arc as he has a good shooting stroke and a quick release on his jumper. Anguelov is more than just a shooter as he can handle the ball on the perimeter and rarely makes mistakes with the ball in his hands. He is also a solid perimeter defender as he routinely makes plays on that end. Anguelov’s ability to affect the game in multiple ways is something that Wildwood Catholic Academy will need for the upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id="900365" first="Jordan" last="Stafford"], 6’3 St. Joseph Academy

The Wildcats had a strong 2019-20 season and they should have another one with Stafford returning to run the offense. The 6’3 guard has a good handle and is capable of breaking his defender down off the dribble. Once he gets into the lane, Stafford can make tough passes in traffic and finish through contact. He makes an impact on the defensive end as he uses his length to get steals and blocks. Stafford and classmate [player_tooltip player_id="900329" first="Marcus" last="Pierce"] are a talented guard duo who should lead St. Joseph Academy to a successful 2020-21 season.

[player_tooltip player_id="836479" first="Guy" last="Fauntleroy"], 6’0 Olympus Prep

Fauntleroy transferred into Olympus Prep from Maryland this offseason and should make an impact there right away. The Riverdale Baptist transfer is lightning quick with the ball in his hands and is hard to keep out of the lane. Fauntleroy is a crafty finisher around the basket and is unafraid of drawing contact. He is a skilled passer and uses his quickness to make plays on the defensive end. Fauntleroy is a quick lead guard who is ready to run the Olympus Prep offense this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="900326" first="Lucas" last="Dunn"], 6’1 Camden Catholic

Temple commit [player_tooltip player_id="850506" first="Zach" last="Hicks"] is the Irish’s top scorer and he gets a lift from Dunn on the perimeter. The 6’1 guard is a knockdown shooter as he has a sweet shooting stroke and sets his feet before he shoots the ball. Dunn is more than just a shooter as he can handle pressure on the perimeter and finish around the basket. He moves his feet well on the defensive end and fights for loose balls. Dunn is a tough lead guard who will to end his Camden Catholic career on a high note.
