Senior leadership will be a theme heading into a new season for the Page Pirates. Boasting one of the top backcourts ([player_tooltip player_id="574435" first="Jaden" last="Ellis"] & [player_tooltip player_id="838051" first="Zion" last="Connor"]) in the Greensboro area, expectations should be high heading into the basketball season. Here’s an early look at the Page Pirates for the 2020-21 season.

[player_tooltip player_id="574435" first="Jaden" last="Ellis"] | 6’3 Guard | 2021

Ellis returns as the leading scorer and distributor for Page after putting up 15.6 ppg, 3.4 apg, 3.4 rpg and 1.2 spg in 2019-20. He was an impressive scorer and defender in the Triad Blue Basketball Fall League as the Pirates made it all the way to the title game. He’s a lead by example type of guy that does well keeping his teammates engaged and focused on winning games. He’ll make a college coach look good very soon.

[player_tooltip player_id="838051" first="Zion" last="Connor"] | 6’4 Wing/Guard | 2021

Connor returns as the Pirates’ second-leading scorer (10.6 ppg) and is due to turn a corner given his athleticism and ability to defend the ball. He’s got versatility to play multiple spots on the floor and is a mismatch problem in the post for smaller guards. He’ll be a name to keep an eye on in the rotation along with Ellis.

Joshua Scovens | 6’5 Forward | 2022

Scovens is probably the best breakout candidate of the group. He put up 3.3 ppg and 2.8 rpg in 2019-20 but look for that production to go up a ton after he tore threw competition in fall league play. He’s a long, wiry forward that likes to battle in the paint and finish around the rim. He should raise the profile of the Pirates a ton in 2020-21.

Darryl Phifer | 6’1 Guard | 2021

Phifer should be another prospect with breakout potential in the backcourt. While they aren’t the biggest, they have guards that like to get it up the floor and get to the rim. He’s one of those players. As he improves on his decision-making, he’s a guard that should turn the heads of college coaches with his ability to shoot the 3 and create off the bounce.

Michael Maxwell | 5’11 Guard | 2021

Maxwell is a senior that should play a solid reserve as a ballhandler and creator off the bounce. He’s not afraid to get the ball up the floor and push the tempo, giving them another option off the bench to run the show.
