My job will not be complete until I see college coaches and recruiters flowing back into the City of Detroit and the Metro Detroit area as a whole to see the amazing talent that is being displayed day in and day out. Let’s take a look at 5 forwards that will make any college program out there better.

[player_tooltip player_id="814579" first="Jahlani" last="Thornton"] (2021, F, DEPSA)

College coaches cherish players that have a do it all skill set. This is why colleges are going to love Thornton. At a now 6’7” he can dribble, shoot, pass, rebound, and play lockdown defense. Get at him early because he is ready for a breakout senior season and he will then be a hot commodity. This young man can play.

Matthew Coffey (2022, F, Mount Clemens)

Coffey is a fundamentally sound and very strong player. When I see him play I see a player that can run the floor, rebound on both ends, play solid defense, protect the rim, and score in the paint and on put backs. I also see a player that has just scratched the surface of his athletic ability. With continued hard work and changes to the roster at Mt. Clemens this is going to be a break out season for him. College recruiters take notice now.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076039" first="Terrell" last="Sykes"] (2023, F, Madison Heights Lamphere)

Wow this young man has three more years of high school basketball to play. What excites be about him is his desire and ability to play defense. He can guard anyone on the floor and will not shy away from doing it. Offensively his inside game is good and his perimeter game is developing. He shows leadership on the court now. His ceiling is high and it is going to be a pleasure watching him develop.

[player_tooltip player_id="1112309" first="Andrew" last="Kimbrough"] (2024, F, Madison Heights Lamphere)

I watched this young man play and also spoke with his coach. He has tons of potential and has a good chance at starting as a freshmen if he continues to work as hard has he is working now. When he matures mentally and physically the sky is the limit. He is a good, solid all-around player has a freshman.

[player_tooltip player_id="987279" first="Jayden" last="Hardiman"] (2023, F, Warren Mott)

I love a young player that is not intimidated when playing with older players. Hardiman comes to work and it shows on the court. He is physical. He doesn’t shy away from contact. He isn’t afraid of battling in the paint. He battles for rebounds on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Every team needs a player like this. Tremendous upside.
