Prep Hoops Dakotas Top 250 Expo: Top Rebounders

The Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo hit Sioux Falls Sunday, as high school players from North and South Dakota braved the snow in an effort to get into the gym and compete.

With top-notch players from both states taking part, there was no shortage of high-level play and while this kind of environment is generally more guard-friendly, there were a number of big guys who impressed with their abilities to clean the glass.

Here were some of the top rebounders

[player_tooltip player_id="975537" first="Hayden" last="Muirhead"]

Muirhead was a rebounding machine Sunday, gobbling up misses on both ends of the floor. He’s listed at 6-foot-7 and he’s got that rangy, jumping-jack ability to control both his area and anything in his general vicinity. On the offensive end of the floor, he does a great job moving without the ball which makes him a tough guy to box out and contain on the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id="812198" first="Caleb" last="Hiatt"]

Hiatt was one of the most physical players in attendance Sunday and he does a great job clearing out space to collect misses on a routine basis. He’s not the tallest guy, but he’s got plenty of length and he knows how to use his body to create advantages whenever shots go up.

[player_tooltip player_id="757858" first="Micah" last="Swallow"]

Swallow rebounded with authority all day, bringing consistent energy to the game on a regular basis. He’s got plenty of size and athleticism to control the glass in and out of his area, and his effort level on both ends of the floor stood out in a big way for his team. His ability to be physical with the opposition allowed him to create extra scoring opportunities on the offensive glass as well.

John Johnson

Johnson had a solid day in the paint, using his understanding of angles and space to post solid rebounding performances consistently. He isn’t the tallest or the most athletic guy, but he has a great understanding of where the ball is going, and he worked relentlessly to get to good positions where he could do damage.

[player_tooltip player_id="975561" first="Derek" last="Eidsness"]

Eidsness is a solidly-built swingman who did a good job mixing it up with bigger guys throughout the day. He’s more a wing on the offensive end of the floor, but by necessity, ended up covering up a lot of opposing post players and more than held his own on the glass. His athleticism came in handy in a lot of those situations and he presented his team with a lot of grab-and-go opportunities.

Vance Katzfey

Katzfey is more a guard/wing but he did a great job getting to the glass throughout the day, swooping in for rebounds on numerous occasions. His willingness to stick his nose in and get physical allowed his team a number of solid transition opportunities and his beat on loose balls was a positive all day.
