Top 250 Expo: Top Posts

Here is a look at some of the best posts I got to see in person on September 27. There were 20 teams with five games going at once, giving us a smorgasbord of great basketball.

2022 6-7 PF [player_tooltip player_id="1045092" first="Wade" last="Kahl"] – Centennial

With the ability to score inside and out, [player_tooltip player_id="1045092" first="Wade" last="Kahl"] had another strong showing. His offensive versatility is worthy of next level looks. Kahl is adept at scoring on the low block with his back to the basket and he’s also able to consistently knock down the three ball. Kahl is a stretch-four that will present major problems at the high school level. He opened up camp with 14 points and 11 rebounds while hitting two threes.

2023 6-4 PF [player_tooltip player_id="948819" first="Gabe" last="Omoregie"] – Dacula

The rising sophomore played bigger than his height and older than his age. Omoregie is a relentless rebounder that goes after anything in his area. He’s strong around the rim and can power up through contact. What impressed me the most however, was his release. He snapped the wrist perfectly when he shot from the baseline and mid-range. His soft touch from 15-feet and in makes Omoregie more than just a garbage guy.

2021 6-5 PF Derrick Earley – New Manchester

It was a solid first impression from Derrick Earley. The active forward displayed a great motor and nose for the ball. He cleaned the glass at a high level and scored at the rim. Earley occasionally took his man off the dribble with a quick first step. With New Manchester in rebuild mode, Earley could be a bright spot for the Jaguars. He tallied 16 points, 15 rebounds and 1 block in his final game of the day.

2022 6-5 PF [player_tooltip player_id="1049037" first="Josh" last="Hughes"] – Etowah

[player_tooltip player_id="1049037" first="Josh" last="Hughes"] showed me something I wasn’t sure I knew he had. Of course I knew about the toughness in the paint and the diverse offensive game, but it was his leaping ability that caught my attention. Hughes can explode off the ground and slam it home off one step. His deceptive bounce will catch opponents off guard throughout the season. He’s definitely trending in the right direction.

2022 6-7 PF [player_tooltip player_id="949916" first="Tony" last="Carpio"] – Providence Christian

[player_tooltip player_id="949916" first="Tony" last="Carpio"] was a double-double machine throughout camp. In a setting where games were played at a breakneck pace, it was impressive to see Carpio still do major damage in the box score. He’s a stretchy four-man that can cause issues with his toughness around the hoop but also his soft touch from the perimeter. Carpio was a steady rim protector throughout the day as well. His addition to Providence Christian is an impactful one.

2023 6-8 PF [player_tooltip player_id="1020690" first="Brigham" last="Rogers"] – Blessed Trinity

Outside of the structure of Blessed Trinity and the Atlanta All-Stars, [player_tooltip player_id="1020690" first="Brigham" last="Rogers"] had no issue adapting to the free-flowing style of play at the Top 250. Rogers didn’t just anchor himself on the block, he showed me a blossoming dimension of his game: shooting the three and attacking off the dribble. Rogers was really good in the game I saw, posting 17 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. I liked him when I saw him this summer, but after the aggressiveness he showed on Sunday, I like him even more as a future high-level college player.

2022 6-7 C [player_tooltip player_id="870191" first="Miokaye" last="Grant"] – Newton

It’s been over a year since I’ve seen [player_tooltip player_id="870191" first="Miokaye" last="Grant"]. He caught my eye with his size, length and athleticism and all those same traits were on display on Sunday. He’s a rim runner that can punish those who jump with him. Defensively, Grant erases shots and is a vocal anchor in the paint. He’s got enough lateral quickness to help defend guards on switches and recover to his man. Grant is a prospect to keep an eye on. If he continues to improve, he may have a late burst of interest and offers similar to that of 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="806743" first="Taje" last="Kelly"] who recently committed to Charleston Southern.

2022 6-8 C [player_tooltip player_id="870195" first="Eddie" last="Page"] – GAC

Still a little raw, [player_tooltip player_id="870195" first="Eddie" last="Page"] jumps out at you with his length and quickness off the floor. Page tried to dunk everything in my sitting. Page moves well and can alter shots at the rim. The more reps he gets, the better he will be. Developing a go-to post move, will really put Page on the map.

2022 6-9 C [player_tooltip player_id="870148" first="Malique" last="Ewin"] – Berkmar

Things come easy for [player_tooltip player_id="870148" first="Malique" last="Ewin"]g, the No. 5 ranked prospect in our 2022 rankings. Ewin is a great athlete that can run for days and thrive in an up-tempo setting. His interesting blend of guard skills really gives him a terrific ceiling. Aside from all of his highlight dunks, Ewin’s best play was when he defended a guard on the perimeter and blocked his shot, recovered the ball and went coast-to-coast for a slam. It’s plays like that that make him a High Major prospect.
