With top-notch players from both states taking part, there was no shortage of competitive basketball.
Here were some of the standout junior guards:
Harrison Reede Harrison Reede 5'10" | PG Aberdeen Central | 2022 SD – Aberdeen Central
Reede was one of the top players on the floor Sunday and wasted little time standing out. He got into a groove offensively, knocking down perimeter jumpers with ease, blowing by defenders consistently and making plays off the ball as a cutter. He’s a natural passer who excels when he can draw extra defenders and pitch out to teammates for shots, and he’s a grinder on the defensive end of the floor.
Alex Proctor – Fargo Davies
Proctor has a smooth offensive repertoire and put it on display throughout the play Sunday. He’s a highly-athletic combo guard who has the dribble-drive game to get to the rim and finish with ease. He’s a solid long-range shooter off the catch and plays with a definite flair. He’s got the athletic tools to defend multiple perimeter positions too. He’s a player to watch this winter for a Fargo Davies team that looks to have a strong 2022 class.
Joseph Uttecht – SF Washington
Uttecht had a terrific day on both ends of the floor, showcasing the ability to score from all three levels on the floor, make plays for his teammates off the bounce and taking on the defensive challenges for his team. He’s got the length and quickness to defend taller or smaller guards all the same, and his ability to play through contact and create his own shot in the mid-range or in the paint made him a bucket-getter all afternoon.
Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND – Fargo Davies
Motschenbacher was one of highest rated players in Sioux Falls on Sunday and he did a great job fitting in with his team and making plays. He’s an excellent decision-maker who always seems in control. He never forces things and he seems to have a great feel for when to attack and get his own shot versus when to make plays. He’s a threat from the 3-point line, but also showed plenty of off-the-dribble juice.
Wellington Wilson – Fargo Davies
Yet another member of what is shaping up to be an impressive looking 2022 class at Fargo Davies, Wilson had a lot of good moments Sunday, showcasing the ability to get into the paint at will and make plays either for himself or his teammates. He’s a big, strong kid who has the athleticism to push the tempo in transition, break people down off the dribble and get into people on the defensive end of the floor.
