Clay played a big role for the Lighthouse Christian Lions last season as a sophomore and contributed big minutes, steals, and points. In the 2020-21 season, Silva will look to lead the Lions on a quest for a district championship and a run at the state tournament. Continue reading for a breakdown of Clay’s skills and abilities on both ends of the floor.
Defense: Defensively, Clay is a solid player and will continue to get better in his final two seasons of high school basketball. Lighthouse Christian likes to run a 3/4 court press, and Silva can play in the front as a pressuring guard, or in the back as a safety. He is quick enough to cover the ball and can react to any passes that are thrown over the top. He has excellent hands and gets to top speed quickly which allows him to cover a lot of ground during scrambles. Whenever he is switched onto a big, Silva attempts to make the post players uncomfortable by forcing them into shots they would not normally take. He is a competitor no matter who he is tasked with guarding. As a rebounder, Clay likes to crash the glass for boards he knows he can get and can also grab a few offensive rebounds when he sees the opportunity.
Offense: Silva is a great shooter from outside and is continuing to find his offensive rhythm. He can shoot the ball really well from the perimeter and is not hesitant to shoot whenever the opportunity presents itself. Clay likes to get out in transition and finishes really well at the rim with both hands. He draws contact when he drives and likes to score easy points at the free throw line. Silva rarely shoots the pull-up jumper and prefers to either shoot from deep, or drive to the lane for a basket at the rim. Silva is an unselfish player and likes to pass the ball to his open teammates in order to set them up for success.
Overall: On both ends of the floor, Clay gets the job done and plays very well in any situation he is thrown into. On defense, he is a pesky defender that likes to guard the ball or try to pick off poor passes. On offense, he is a knockdown shooter from outside and a great finisher at the rim.
