There will inevitably be players who are missed in any ranking process. But with every update of a class list, new players are included as they establish themselves and get ‘seen’ around the state.

The position group that added the most names in the most recent update of the Kansas 2021 Player Rankings was combo guard.

Ten combo guards joined the rankings, including several who shot pretty far up the list:

58 [player_tooltip player_id="1070185" first="Tre" last="Alexander"], Topeka West:

Alexander has the body of a college defensive end, but he has a dynamic full-court game. He can handle the ball and do creative things with it from end to end. He’s not just a physical mismatch for opponents. He is a heady facilitator of offense who loves to get others involved. Alexander earned honorable mention 5A as a junior.

59 [player_tooltip player_id="1070200" first="Josh" last="Jordan"], Salina South:

Like Alexander, Jordan earned honorable mention 5A last year. He is a talented ball handler who knows how to quarterback and keep a team in synch both in the open court and in a set offense. He has good good size at 6-foot-3 to play off guard, defend bigger opponents and play in the lane.

64 [player_tooltip player_id="1070190" first="Cooper" last="Jones"], Spring Hill:

The 6-foot-1 Jones was another honorable mention selection in 5A. He was a focal point of the Spring Hill offense last year, and had some big moments, including the game-winner at the buzzer against Ottawa.

93 [player_tooltip player_id="1070206" first="Tanner" last="Meyer"], Wellington:

The lanky 6-foot-3 Meyer earned honorable mention 4A last year. He is athletic and versatile, as capable of throwing down a dunk as of knocking down a three-pointer.

109 [player_tooltip player_id="1072884" first="Brevin" last="Canady"], Royal Valley:

Canady can really handle the ball full court and will team with junior [player_tooltip player_id="891912" first="Nahcs" last="Wahwassuck"] to make Royal Valley incredibly tough to stop next year. The 6-foot Canady is athletic and elusive in the open court, maneuvering through traffic and always trying to push the pace.

137 [player_tooltip player_id="1072889" first="Rohan" last="Gupta"], Sunrise Christian:

His ball-handling skill and ability to penetrate creates a lot of problems for defenses. At 6-foot-2, Gupta scores effectively in the lane and draws a lot of fouls. He’s also a contributor on defense and on the glass.

144 [player_tooltip player_id="1072891" first="Vacarrio" last="Triplett"], Hayden:

The smooth Triplett showed he could work well with another guard last year, teaming well with [player_tooltip player_id="885609" first="John" last="Roeder"]. Triplett is 6-foot-2 and long armed and is effective handling the ball all over the court. He an shoot from the perimeter, get into the lane and find open teammates.

152 [player_tooltip player_id="1070204" first="Rigby" last="Born"], Girard:

Born earned honorable mention 4A last season. He was an effective and reliable scorer for the Trojans. The multi-sport athlete is versatile and athletic.

158 [player_tooltip player_id="1072892" first="Isiah" last="Johnson"], Shawnee Heights:

Johnson is a great threat in the open court, racing to easy buckets several times a game. The 5-foot-9 guard may be called upon to run the offense more this season, but he’s an established scorer playing off guard.

173 [player_tooltip player_id="1072894" first="Jeremiah" last="Manning"], Shawnee Mission North:

Manning is an athlete who creates problems for opponents. He is a disruptive defender and tough on the move with the ball. The 6-foot-1 workhorse can shoot, run an offense and handle the ball under pressure.
