Continue ReadingThe Commonwealth Basketball Group held their second session of their Fall Series at Guardian Christian Academy in Chesterfield, VA. The goal of the event was to get kids back in the gym in a grassroots setting, and provide a live steam to college coaches to be able to evaluate the talent in a structured environment.
The event had 16 teams and was loaded with talent, so doing the standouts in just one article simply isn’t possible. Here’s a look at part three of the 2022 standouts, featuring seven guys to keep an eye on.
Roman Barshow | 6’6” WF | Highland School
Barshow is a guy I feel like I’m going to continue to like him the more and more I watch him, because I’ve already gone from “this kid has a chance” to “he’s going to be really good this season.” He’s a big and athletic guy who fits perfectly with senior forward Caleb Furr Caleb Furr 6'6" | PF Bishop Walsh | 2022 VA as they both are versatile inside-out guys, and Barshow has a mix of touch and athleticism that makes him impactful both on the perimeter and in the paint. He’s a name people will get to know here soon and he’s going to be intriguing to watch develop moving forward.
Jaden Daughtry Jaden Daughtry 6'6" | SF Benedictine College Prep | 2022 VA | 6’6” F | CBG Wildcats
Daughtry was another new addition to session two, along with his Wildcats teammates below, and he’s going to be a big time addition at LC Bird as well. The 6’6” forward still has some fitting in to do but he showed his terrific motor, his athletic finishing ability and his continued improvement as a playmaker when he gets downhill. He showed flashes as he got it going and once he gets in the gym with his group he’ll be a big time addition moving forward.
Keyontae Lewis Keyontae Lewis 6'7" | PF LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 6’9” C | CBG Wildcats
Lewis was a little banged up as many guys get when they haven’t been playing basketball in so long due Covid, but he showed some of what made him one of the best bigs in Chesterfield County last year. He’s a big kid but he moves well and has a quick first step, his feet have improved immensely and he has multiple fakes and he’s great in screen-and-roll and duck and finish situations. He also has some touch out to the free throw line and can dominate the glass on both ends.
Brycen Blaine Brycen Blaine 6'5" | SG LC Bird | 2022 GA | 6’3” WG | CBG Wildcats
Blaine has steadily improved over the past few years and he looks like he’s ready to show he can play with the best. He’s a great addition to a talented group as he’s the glue guy that can do a little of everything and can come up with buckets in different ways. He thrives as a slasher who can use his strength to finish but he also can make shots from deep, get in the lane and make decisions and guard multiple guys on the other end.
Cam Kearney | 6’5” WF | Mr. C’s Fastbreak
Kearney is one of those kids that has so many impressive tools and can really play the game, but he’s also always been the best player on his team and he often plays that way. He showed flashes of his potential though, as the 6’5” wing is someone who can handle the ball and create in isolation situations, he showed he can score from multiple levels and he has the potential to guard and play multiple positions. He’s long, athletic and skilled and will be interesting to watch now that he’s coming into the upperclassmen recruitment periods.
Anthony Fisher Anthony Fisher 6'0" | PG Benedictine | 2022 State VA | 5’10” PG | VA Havoc
Fisher is a guy I have liked from day one because there’s just something about him, and when you get to see him work for multiple games you see there’s actually a lot of stuff to him. He’s a competitor, he’s an athlete, he’s a playmaker and he’s a dog on the defensive end. He’s the type of point guard I like as he’ll set the tone on both ends and everyone follows, he can score it when he needs to and he can make others better, and most importantly he’s going to give your guard fits all game long.
Jamais Wertz | 6’8” PF | VA Havoc
Wertz is a guy to keep an eye on moving forward as he had a really good season last year with Monacan and this summer with Havoc, and he’s now reclassifying to the 2022 class and transferring to Life Christian. Wertz is a mix of an old school big and a new school big, he’s old school in the fact that he’s strong and physical in the post and can score on the block, and he’s new school because he’s mobile enough to run the floor and he can step out and shoot the 3. He’s going to be a guy scholarship level coaches love, and he’ll emerged as a sleeper in the next few years.
